Strong Indy showing as indicated up thread. Does anyone know what sort of Indy? Very much community politics, from what I gather the candidate is an ex-Liberal Democrat member (or at the very least an ex-active supporter), connected to the Independent Councillors in Beddington North.

Jeez that was a dreadful result for us in Clacks. Not unexpected given the rubbish leadership we have in Scotland.

STV by-elections are strange things; SNP hold, despite coming second in the ward 2017 (ie. would require the SNP to move from second to first to retain the seat, as they did in this case). The terminology just seems off for me.

Although Labour 'won' the ward in 2017, the ward (as with presumably all in Scotland) is split. It's quite possible under these circumstances that at least a proportion of the electors are voting to keep it split, so to speak.

Not unexpected given the rubbish leadership we have in Scotland. I don't suppose there is an absolutely direct connection, but things seem to have gone awfully quiet since his election. It's leadership by the 'invisible man'. The choice between Leonard and Sawar was pretty dire. Given the way that Kezia Dugdale was treated has probably put many off from standing. Not that there was a great pool of talent there to start with.

(as with presumably all in Scotland) I think there are some all independent fests in the islands.
