EDIT from Wikipedia it appears that he is, or at least he has stood as a councillor for the Conservatives twice before, including amusingly trying to get elected in Brighton by making homophobic remarks.

Aveley FC were one of the mysterious inclusions on the 1971 Bartholomew Football Map of England and Wales (if you have a copy of it, that really dates you kids).

I say mysterious as many of the clubs included could hardly be said to be at the top of the non league tree, even in the pre-pyramid days. Middlesex Wanderers? Hull Brunswick?

Less probably as I suspect a reasonable proportion of the UKIP vote just won't bother.

Very sad to see the death of Julian Ware-Lane, who was a young man, and the leading Labour figure in Southend.  This was my old ward when I lived there, and he canvassed me just before I moved to London in 2012, when he won what had been a moderately safe ward for the Conservatives.  I worked with his cousin.

This is the town centre ward, and the most cosmopolitan in Southend.  It contains both high streets - Southend and Westcliff, the up market conservation area in between, including the smart properties on the estuary, and by far the largest amount of private renting in the borough, in the streets directly surrounding the high streets, and the largest BAME population.  There is no council housing here.  Demographically it has been moving sharply to Labour, with comfortable victories for Julian in 2016, and for Labour in 2018.  The seat the Conservatives are defending here in May, won in 2015 on the GE turnout, is key to their continuing control of the council.  

This is therefore an interesting by-election.  The council wanted to have a double election in May, but as often happens residents moved the writ requiring the by-election, to the disgruntlement of the Conservatives.  It's also an interesting test of public opinion in the current fraught situation, in an area (south Essex) which is generally very strongly Leave.

It's a map rather than a book, and easily available online - not least because it was re-printed about ten years ago.

I hope you didn't scribble in your library books too.

Almost exactly 1,000 votes to count in Basildon and circa 1,750 in Durham.
