Es kommen haertere Tage. (do any of our resident Germanists know that one? Georg Ebner might) Bachmann? The one who didn't get together with Turner and their Overdrive.

Is that Woden defecting from Anglo-Saxon to Norse? Go back to your constituencies and prepare for Ragnarok! Not far to get to Ragnarok from your neck of the woods either...

Ragnarok. Hmm. In this context would carlton43 consider it to be "The Twilight of the Establishment" perhaps?

The Twilight of the Metropolitan Establishment and the Woke may be a damn side closer than many of you care to realize? The "z" spelling, Carlton? You're slipping You liken me to an unsanded locomotive attempting a start on an icy wet morning! The 'ise' ending is a new variant and 'ize' still regarded as the more correct by the OUP. It stemmed from whether the root verb was from Greek as so many of ours are. If so it should take an 'ize' ending. Then all verbs were deemed better with an 'ize' to avoid confusion and error. Then new voices mainly in the Americas with the stylist Emerson in the lead, and in science came to prefer 'ise'. But in general usage 'ize' tended to hang on in the USA and that caused science to prefer it as well. And it became a mark of the better educated in Britain to continue with 'ize'. And there it rests at present! An American and science idea now shunned in America and by science. But largely adopted by those in Britain with poor English and no taste for style and no knowledge. And there you are Dok, seeking to criticize me on the basis of near total ignorance of all of that???

The Twilight of the Metropolitan Establishment and the Woke may be a damn side closer than many of you care to realize? And yes, I can't wait for hard fought equality to be rewound by a group of 50-somethings for profit and "sovereignty". I know you don't care about real people, some of us do. It may surprise you to learn that I too am a 'real' person! I was born of woman. I live and breath. I eat and excrete. I am a real person. And what is all this 'hard fought' you chunter about? The closest you have been to a fight is with a stiff little filing cabinet.

But, mark, a debased usage invented in America by an American!!!

Ise versus ize is purely a question of style and preference. It incurs a de-merit point like Face furniture Green hair Tattoos White socks Cuban heels Cowboy boots Baseball caps Hawaiian shirts Shell suits Drinking brown ale Liking Chilean wine Being a Trekkie Watching soaps Being a Strictly fan Collecting comics Eating any English bottled sauce Living on Take Away food Etc.

Ise versus ize is purely a question of style and preference. not in Britain it isn't. Except for some words. I am willing to die in this ditch Which side is your ditch on? I too consider this not just to be a matter of style but of correct usage based in origins.

HP sauce makes a humble sausage butty into the food of the heavens. And, as I have said before, there is no food that isn't improved by the application of tomato ketchup. carlton43 didn't like that either.
