The late Oswald Mosley has today joined the Lib Dems. Jo Swinson has said that you need to look past his previous views and focus on his long history of advocating membership of the European project. I think the Liberals were the only party he wasn't a member of.

He resigned from Labour after becoming active in fascism rather than being booted out. You have to vote Lib Dem to suffer that fate.

Moseley resigned from Labour when he formed the New Party, largely composed of former Labour supporters. This followed the Moseley Memorandum which was signed by a number of left-wing Labour MPs including Nye Bevan and John Strachey and nearly was carried at the 1930 Labour Party Conference. Most who did follow Moseley didn't last very long in the New Party, a couple of days in some cases. The New Party certainly turned towards fascism later but had shed most of its early members in the process.

Not uncommon in the interwar period.

The 'Biff Boys' were trained by Teddy 'Kid' Lewis - a former champion welterweight boxer who was New Party candidate in Whitechapel and St George's division in 1931.
With true irony, Lewis was Jewish and from the same East End Jewish community that the Blackshirts fought at Cable Street.

Not uncommon in the interwar period. Did any of the mainstream Parties form a militia? (possibly in the General Strike??)

I always knew that John Major was a weak-kneed, weak-voiced, pathetic ittle stop-gap twerp, and he was a reason for my tearing up my party card during his 'office'. The whole party fell to bits under his lacklustre shrill brittle 'leadersip'.
We now know what a duplicitous, lying, two-faced, disloyal, treacherous humbug cunt you really are. To have the temerity to take court action and instruct another traitor former Conservative to act against a serving Conservative PM. To take ACTION AGAINST a Conservative PM.
That bastard has to be expelled from the party with ignomy and all references to him should be expunged from our records. He is to be shunned and reviled forever. One should spit at the mention of his name and turn one's back in his presence.
Hateful man. Curse him once. twice and thrice. May he come to a bad end.

Good old reliable markgoodair (where's Tony....never one to pass up on nasty slagging off from the provisional wing of your party) there to 'like' you. Be careful as you are close to breaking Forum protocols. I am permitted to slag off a non-member (on sort of my side) and am not personal against any of you.

Major is the original sufferer of "Brexit Derangement Syndrome". I'm sure he wouldn't want to be reminded of the time he prorogued parliament to avoid answering awkward questions. Or maybe that was okay because he was doing it?

I'm with Carlton on this. I wasn't too keen on Major at the time and it is fair to say that amongst the party members I'm friends with he is far from flavour of the month.

I find the vitriolic abuse of Tory Prime Ministers by members of the same party a bit strange. I was, and am, very critical of what Nick Clegg did in coalition, but I have always thought that he was a thoroughly decent person, and I feel that about John Major as well. He has not had the credit he deserves for what he did to lay the foundations of peace in Northern Ireland; for that alone he should be respected.
