I can't help feeling that this just "isn't cricket", and the same can be said of the Cheshire West defection from Labour. To use a political party as the route to election and to then defect *two weeks* later is immoral in the extreme. Added in edit: I am heartened to receive so many likes in 30 minutes. I mean, the ink is hardly dry on their signatures certifying their election expense returns! 😠

your post reminds me that during a visit yesterday to the 1970s time-warp Edgar Wallace pub near the Law Courts in London I saw an advert for, amongst many other old products, Wincarnis. That possibly even predates the 1970s. Our local Tesco always stocks Sanatogen. But I've never seen anyone buy it or know anyone who drinks it. The disappearance of Mathers Black Beer is to be regretted. There is a corner shop near me that sells a Spanish 'alcoholic beef tonic' the name of which escapes me. I shall look when I'm next in. I've never seen it on sale in Spain or heard of anyone Spanish drinking it.

They had 2 ales on from a Southwark brewery, can't remember which other one. The quality was excellent.

And a fourth defection in Peterborough Wittering councillor Gavin Elsey has confirmed he has left the Conservative Party and joined the 'Peterborough First' group with the three other defectors. Elsey was also chairman of the North West Cambridgeshire Conservative Association until last year.

The Conservative group in Rotherham seems to be having some issues - five councillor defections listed here Only three of those are from Conservative. Robert Elliott (Greasbrough) and Ian Jones (Rotherham West) were both elected for the now defunct Rotherham Democratic Party. They both continued to be shown as RDP councillors for some time after the party de-registered, but are now both shown as Independent. Charlie Wooding (Dinnington) was elected as Conservative and is now shown as Independent. Emily Barley (Hoober) and Jill Thompson (Rawmarsh West) were both elected as Conservative and as stated now form the "Independent Conservative Group".

Note that the eight ex-SNP councillors in North Lanarkshire who left or were expelled over the party leadership's apparent covering up for wrong'un ex-leader Jordan Linden, have now formed the 'Progressive Change North Lanarkshire' group.

This really smacks of "what are we not being told". What assurances were offered to them to stand as Tory candidates. What assurances did they give to stand as Tory candidates I take the point about it not being cricket, liked by 30 Forum members, but I do wonder

Rother DC Beverley Jane Coupar, Independent to Rother Association of Independent Councillors. This makes them level with Labour in group numbers.

Emily Barley was leader of the Conservative group on Rotherham Council, no? She stepped down in January and was replaced by Simon Ball. As mentioned in the by-elections thread Charlie Wooding did not last long as an Independent, as he has now been disqualified for non-attendance. The council is now Lab 34 (+2 on 2021), Con 14 (-6), Lib Dem 4 (+1), Ind 4 (+3), Ind Con 2 (+2), vacant 1, RDP 0 (-3).

Possibly a case of the Conservative group chucking him out on the basis he wasn't doing anything?
