And another one in Plymouth At this rate the defectors will soon be able to form an administration of their own . Nigel Churchill in Dunstone has gone as well, so that's 8.

Kevin's talks on Labour, socialist and revolutionary history are really interesting. Clearly from a specific Marxist perspective but well worth listening to (assuming you listen to things you don't necessarily agree with). Available on Labour Left Alliance website. What are the two names about? A sort of Lutte Ouvrière "name in case you have to run away" thing? Oh, you would have to ask an insider but it's very common in small Marxist parties.

Conwy UA, a couple of Labour councillors have left the group in protest after the group leader ousted a party colleague from a comittee chair. They are Ronnie Hughes (Tudno) and Mike Priestley (Marl); Hughes was Council Leader between 1999-2004, whilst Priestley previously sat with the Lib Dems and was the Labour candidate for Aberconwy at the 2016 Assembly elections. Councillors quit after group leader accused of 'awarding himself pay-rise' - North Wales LiveThe headline kind of distorts the story, but according the article there was a vote amongst the council's Labour group members over who should occupy their committee seat, and three members were denied a vote over unpaid subscriptions (as per party rules), and the chair receives an extra ~£9k pa pay-rise.

Two names there I recognise - and I moved away 54 years ago !

They didn't stand any candidates in the May 2019 elections, and whilst they contested some subsequent byelections I'm pretty sure they didn't win any.

What on earth did he say about Jack Charlton that resulted in him changing party?

What on earth did he say about Jack Charlton that resulted in him changing party? The day after the Leeds United legend died aged 85, the former Lord Mayor of York posted on Facebook: “Jack ‘Bloodsports’ Charlton has died. Sick of the adulation of this animal abuser. Being good at kicking a leather football around does not absolve him.”
It is fair comment if that's your take. But deeply unwise in a part of the world where Jack Charlton was particularly popular, and before the man had even had his funeral.

Did he go or was he pushed? It's a very odd thing though. If he was a former Lord Mayor, presumably he has a political history going back into the past in other parties than the Greens?

The article says he was suspended for six months by the Greens, so probably had to re-register as an Independent. It also says he’s been a councillor for 13 years, and the Greens won both seats in that Ward in 2007.

Oh. I won't ask how the Greens got to appoint the Lord Mayor! Probably part of the coalition deal with your team to run the council; maybe alternates between the two, or avoids the need to give them a proper job.

The list of recent Lord Mayors of York shows that it's a non-partisan position which goes to long-serving councillors regardless of party.
