They do things differently in Pendle.... Ever since 1612 Dear Beelzebub whilst I have enjoyed my time as a bride of Satan, and have learned a lot, developments in the town mean that I would wish to tender my resignation from the ranks of your minions. With kindest regards

Thank you for this I had noticed. Stephen was an impressionable newcomer to the political candidate scene whoI warned about the character of those chancers vying for positions in the Welsh assembly and others knocking about the fringes. To be fair he did give a lot of help and support to me behind the scenes before I quit. I then witnessed him trailing round behind Farage and a number of the other idiots in the media like a tame lamb. I guess that he finally wised up and heeded my advice given his leaving statement, I have also been contacted by a number of others who mentioned that they wished that they had listened to what I had to say at the time as everything that I had forecast did in fact come to pass.

Another change at Boston Borough Council: Cllr Barrie Pierpoint (Old Leake & Wrangle) non-aligned to Independent. www.bostonstandard.co.uk/news/council-sees-further-shake-up-as-old-leake-and-wrangle-councillor-joins-independents-1-7800899 Cllr Pierpoint (most unfortunately misnamed within this article as Cllr Piepoint) has a very short but remarkably chequered political history - elected as UKIP he left the party on the day he was first elected in 2015 (it was said at the time that he "failed to gel" with other UKIP Group members. although he claimed that his only 'misdemeanor' was to have given one of his business cards at the count to a Conservative councillor). Now he also says he's standing as a Lincolnshire Independent in the County elections this year. New Council: Con 14; UKIP 10; Ind 3; Lab 2; Non-aligned 1.

Tower Hamlets Councillor Andrew Cregan has defected from Labour to the Lib Dems. Citing Brexit, apparently.

Tower Hamlets Councillor Andrew Cregan has defected from Labour to the Lib Dems. One of the most baffling defections given the history between these two parties in the borough. He is member for Island Gardens ward, the other councillor there is our old friend Peter Golds of the Conservatives. Unless I've missed something, Cregan will form a group of one.

The current TH Lib Dems generally play the "we weren't here then"/"I was in school" when their record of running the council is brought up. (However some other Lib Dems aren't so restrained in trumpeting elements of the record.) How senior a Labour councillor was he?

Tim, any councillor that defects from party "A" to party "B" is always going to be a "senior councillor" in the eyes of party "B"! I've checked back and Cregan does not feature in TH Labour candidates at the 2010, 2006 or 2002 borough elections. Clearly a "senior councillor" is someone with 2-3 years' experience.

The defection story was worth it for the ward name alone!

I'm told the Pendle defections predicted by Lord Greaves have taken place.
1 Lib Dem former district and 3 Lib Dem former town councillors, are now Tories.
