How did we Beam into this situation? It's an Alde story. That's Orwell and good, but I honestly Kennet remember the beginning of it. Every attempt to stop this seems to Stour it up more.

I've just scrolled through three pages of comments in the hope of finding an explanation of why there is no Lib Dem candidate in Charnwood but all I Sawe was a Loade of Scilley Punns about the Naimes of Rivers. I can't even be bothered to Google to Check Wethyr "Sawe", "Loade", "Scilley", "Punn", "Naime" and "Wethyr" are rivers or not, but anyway.

As ever, you can find quite a full explanation for the situation in Charnwood in Andrew's Previews over on Britain Elects, and mercifully (almost) pun free and no more reference to rivers than the situation requires.

Pleased to see that despite the boundaries being identical there is no double-hatting by Liberals or Conservatives in south Cumbria. The very extensive double-hatting in Dorset was surely one of the features behind making it into a unitary. Why have the expense and bother of two councils if they are run by exactly the same people? And clearly if people can do both jobs there isn't really much for them to do.
My own view is that where the dual system continues to exist, double-hatting should be banned. I can see the point of separate districts and counties for larger counties, but historically many of the districts have been too small. Most of the stupidly small ones have now been abolished, except in Leicestershire, where we still have Melton, Rutland, and Oadby & Wigston. (No I don't recognise Rutland as a separate county, and its "unitary" is an expensive sham, as most services are in fact run by Leicestershire).
