Did you "win" any seats in the 2009 Euro poll? The count was by council area not parliamentary constituency. From memory we carried Hartlepool, Torbay, Torridge, North Devon, Plymouth, Dudley and Newcastle-under-Lyme. There might have been a couple of others.

There is zero chance of UKIP winning in Boston and Skegness . UKIP had no councillors elected in either part of the seat in 2011 and indeed Chris Pain polled just 143 votes in his ward behind an Independent , Labour , Lib Dems and the Conservatives .

Surprised nobody's made more mention of Chesham and Amersham. High profile issue (HS2) on which UKIP are on the other side to all three parties. In the sad event of CG leaving the House, it is probable that a succeeding Tory candidate would issue an unequivocal personal pledge to oppose HS2, and CCO wouldn't kick a fuss, neutralising the issue.

I noticed Westmorland and Lonsdale in your list of possibles. LOL Well, if the by-election was the result of some terrible misdemeanour by Mr Farron (and I mean terrible) AND we selected Lembit as a candidate AND the Conservatives selected a black, gay A-lister from North London AND Labour forgot to hand in their nomination papers ............................ Nah!

If there was a byelection, i think Sittingbourne and Sheppey could spring a surprise... Not with labour currently in a strong second it wouldn't. I'd rule out all marginals, particularly any marginal where labour is one of the top two parties in the constituency. The best UKIP prospect is a safeish conservative seat where the lib dems and labour aren't that well organised.

To give an example from the last parliament Henley. Although better if there were not even a nearby LD well organised seat (OXWAB there).

Given how bad Estleigh looked for UKIP at the outset, I think the UKIP prospects for a byelectio upset sometime this parliament are better than might have been previously thought?

How many more are you expecting? Any occurring in the last six months of the parliament are unlikely to be called, and any occurring in the last twelve may not be.

I would expect any vacancy occuring before Dec 2014 to have a by-election. There is no way any party could get away with leaving a seat vacant for 12 months.

If they (UKIP) don't win Eastleigh then the answer will be not in this parliament I would imagine.
