"How shortly is shortly?" Well his leadership campaign lasted 48hrs and that tweet was posted almost 2hrs ago, so give it a little longer.

If it was truly important he wouldn't have announced that an announcement was due.

Forgive me, but who is he?
(Yes, I know google will tell me.)
EDIT: And google has, confirming that if I even noticed his previous activities they had left my memory bank.

Apparently, though it isn't exactly clear, he is marrying somebody from Italy. What a weird way of announcing it.

He did say personal. Probably nothing more personal than getting engaged…

I refer the Hon Member to page 1 post 1 of this thread. although, tbh, eventually one of these rumours will turn out to be true, stopped clock theory & all.

I think that given what's happened, a Conservative MP simply choosing to take the piss is quite charming in a way.

Which two? Defections to the Liberal Democrats (Caroline Nokes perhaps?) seem more likely in my opinion.

Which two? Defections to the Liberal Democrats (Caroline Nokes perhaps?) seem more likely in my opinion. I'd assume a soft Labour briefing designed to unsettle the Tories. After a pretty grim few days their parliamentary party will be uncomfortable and suspicions can readily be stirred. It probably means nothing. In spite of the impression sometimes given there are plenty of contacts between MPs of different parties at a personal level. That can pick up unhappiness which sometimes is reported back to the whips and the leader. If it looks promising a gentle operation is run led by an MP who knows them well. It's a very difficult decision to take and the consequences can be unpleasant (both in terms of vitriol from the former party and in the unenthusiastic reactions of the new one). I wouldn't be too surprised at one or two Poulter-like moves - people who are retiring from Parliament and have nothing much to lose and, possibly, something to gain from announcing a new allegiance for the next steps outside the Commons. It isn't easy to predict these things. For example it isn't necessarily about ideology. To take Labour some of the members firmly on the right of the party would be among those least likely ever to defect. One thing that can prompt change is a major change in someone's personal life - a divorce and meeting someone else with very different views and a different social circle. And bitterness, of course, plays a part - disappointment, a sense of being unfairly treated.
