I'd say it just like "Booth" with a long th, then royd. Sadly I don't know my thorns from my eths so no idea if this is right or wrong. My accent is middle class northern but not easily placeable within the north. Thorn is as in the th you pronounce in, erm, thorn. The eth is as you would say in the name Beth. Who on Earth ever pronounces Beth with an ð?

Why not Hancock, Kwarteng and Brady then? Is it because they haven’t ‘self-referred’ themselves to the commission? Is this more of a ‘technical’ whip suspension as a result of that rather than a ‘punishment’ whip removal (say like Hancock). Does this end up making Benton look better because he decided to ‘self-refer’ unlike the others despite this being almost the same as the Led By Donkeys operation. Strange times indeed - following on from Williamson of all people who ended up looking good out of those targeted, by having the sense to not go forward with the job and cancelled the meeting.

As a minimum Benton offered to leak a report 48hrs ahead of publication and ask questions on behalf of this fictitious company (for money).
I don’t think Hancock or Kwarteng did anything quite like that, the embarrassing thing for them is that they were available and the fees they wanted.

Hancock has become a grifter but Kwarteng really should be able to charge more. I think he sees himself as a more successful John Redwood- who whether you agree with him or not is unquestionably an intelligent and capable individual- but as I've commented on here before Kwarteng doesn't really have the intellectual capability which (political embarrassment aside) makes him less attractive than he thinks he should be.

Has Diane Abbott been suspended from the Labour Party for claiming that non black people don't suffer from racism? Yes She appears to have been suspended because she accepts that Jews (and Irish/Travellers etc) are subject to prejudice but not racism as they are not a race of people and therefore impossible to see this discrimination as being on the grounds of race.

No. She uses an offensive comparison between the lived experiences of the peoples she is discussing (a flattering term for a very casual bit of thought) and glosses over the appalling example of the Holocaust in making those simplistic comparisons, among other things. I note that she has already been reselected as a candidate but removal of the whip negates that if it endures.

To claim that outside appearance (and I’m not talking about Hasidic fur hats…) had nothing to do with the discrimination Jews and Gypsies suffered (and suffer) is something…

Btw, I personally don’t think she should have been suspended.

Which is interesting as only the genuine crank "left" (eg Jackie Walker) appear to be coming to her defence.
From the more "mainstream" Labour left there has been either condemnation or a silence that arguably speaks for itself.

I’m not sure how you can defend her outside of claiming that she was too thick to understand what she wrote. I personally oppose her suspension because I oppose almost every parliamentary party suspension.

This is the problem with the Americanisation of our politics. To claim white coloured people can't experience racism on a continent where, still within living memory just, Jewish people and Romany people were rounded up and exterminated on an industrial scale is absurd and obscene.
I'm also not sure what Jim Crow has to do with us. This withering response is the right way to shut her down.

Also very strange timing, not like this is remotely a hot topic at the moment.
Shooting yourself in the foot the classic Labour left way.
