How are the Green Party and the BNP generally doing in these polls? 1%? 2%? I notice on the in depth YouGov chart there is a place for Respect, who seem to be constantly stuck on 0%. Maybe they squeaked 1% just after the Bradford West by-election. One wonders if there is growing potential for their voter base in the light of the recent census findings.

The Croydon North result showed there is no potential outside particularly insular muslim ghettoes even then it is very very limited and goes all on the profile of the candidate in mainly Salma and Gorgeous

I just think in any normal election (ie not european) their max vote is 10% across the country. Obviously some hot spots but the base level is not that high

I think in the short-term it' unlikely to have much impact other than in the relevant by-election. A party can usually survive one or two batshit candidates without it being too damaging. The problem for UKIP will be if things like this keep happening and the cumulative effect would be to create a lasting negative impression of the party.

If we visit YouGov's website, it doesn't take long to find a more detailed breakdown of the most recent voting intention figures, among other things; cdn.yougov.com/cumulus_uploads/document/l45h6yft7w/YG-Archive-Pol-Sun-results-2001212.pdfLab 41 C 33 LD 11 UKIP 10 SNP/PC 3 Green 2 BNP 1 Respect 0 Oth 0 For what it's worth in terms of the entire of Great Britain, the Scottish and Welsh Nationalist score is combined. The highest BNP score I can remember is 7% and the Greens and possibly the continuing Owenite SDP must have exceeded that at some stage in the late 1980s. I can also remember the Referendum Party on 2-4% during the 1997 election campaign. Respect almost always gets 0% and one wonders whether they should continue to be given a specific mention on the tables. There's a fair chance the English Democrats get more support than them. Have we ever had supporters of either of those parties commenting on this site?

On the predecessor site there was Fishergate who was a Respect supporter (maybe a member) from Preston but he left some time ago in a huff over something (must be something in the water in Preston). I'm not sure that there were any ED supporters regularly posting

Fisher Gate had a memorable meltdown because some of us had the temerity to suggest that certain female politicos were not entirely displeasing to the eye ;D At this place, "arthur" comes across as not unsympathetic to the ED's worldview, even if he is not actually a member.
