Margin of error stuff, but pretty funny there’s allegedly 2% of Tories who are communists. Greens bit surprising tbh.

I used to work with a Conservative voter who use Marxist analysis for his PhD topic. He disagreed with it but thought that it provided a better analysis than neoclassical economics.
I am not sure if he ever finished it. He had spent five years working on the his topic using a neoclassical approach, but was dissatisfied and binned the lot and started from scratch using Marxist analysis.
Some reckoned that he had four or five PhDs on his shelves but he was a perfectionist and consequentially never submitted any of them.

Indeed. Where was the option " why are you asking me such a bumfuck stupid question??"
Do yougov operatives really have nothing better to do than put out inane polls like this one?

The only sensible reading is to look for the party with the lowest additive support for fascism and communism.

Whilst I totally reject both options, it's interesting to see which is the 1 party that has higher support for Fascism. I'm shocked I tell ya!

Apparently they’re repeating a poll originally done in 1939 🤷🏻♂️ And in a way I find this interesting, and disagree with those who derided the question per se. As long as it is treated as basically a "bit of fun" rather than with total stone faced seriousness.

As long as it is treated as basically a "bit of fun" rather than with total stone faced seriousness. The problem with the poll is that it isn't really comparing two systems of government. It is comparing a system of government with a word that has simply become a term of abuse. Most people answering the question would have at least a basic understanding of what communism is but how many people have even the faintest idea of what fascism actually is?

Except that for some on the right, "communist" is as much a meaningless term of abuse as "fascist" undoubtedly is for some on the left. This is admittedly more common in a US context (where references to the likes of Biden and Harris as "communists" is close to routine) but some in the UK are also far from immune.

The critique on the right isn’t that Starmer is a communist, though some of the social values of the Labour Party are dodgy, it’s that he’s a Starmerite in the truest sense of the word. He cares mainly about himself, and his hoovering up of every freebie he can get his hands on, even when it’s unethical, shows this.

Haven’t YouGov got better questions to run polls on at the moment? Quite strange that there are no voting intention polls by them since the election yet. Maybe waiting for the new Tory leader.
