Hamburg's "new" electoral system (introduced under v.Beust) is difficult to be counted. (First fast count today, another one tomorrow).
Different to my expectations the OpinionPolls performed quite well: SPD 38%, Greens 26, CDU ~11 (worst ever in HH), FDP 5, AfD below 5% (first time they might fall out of a LandTag; in Hanau a XenoPhobic shot some foreigners few days ago; on the other hand AfD-Hamburg have appeared for 5 years probably as too moderate&calm).

I'm amused that Die Linke and the FDP have found women who are such convincing parodies of the parties' images. The FDP really is the Posh Protestants party these days. Die Linke will be relieved that they won't get as far as Platz 20 where their candidate (Tom Radtke) appears now be calling himself a linkspatriotische after the backlash from a series of tweets about the Holocaust which weren't so much hot takes as thermonuclear takes.

Looks like the AfD are out, FDP hovering, CDU and SPD well down. Great signs for the Greens. Others at over 6 per cent, higher than expected. Or as Twitter put it AfD RAUS, FDP KNAPP

Looks like there was a small shy AfD factor in the prognosis. They look like they are in, still squeaky bum time for the FDP.

Die Linke picked a PKK apologist, and FDP picked a woman from a poncey aristocratic family who married into another one, with the kind of double-barrelled first name that only the "bon chic bon genre" Germans have.

By the way, it's carnival this weekend. Hamburg having elections is marvellous trolling exercise by the Northerners.

This is pretty much a personal triumph for the SPD boss Tsentscher.
I feel sorry for the CDU candidate Weinberg. A decent bloke undone by the national party.

Well, they are on 5.3% with 55 boxes to go, the FDP are on 4.99% and I don't think they'll make it but that's a hunch.

We should take notice, that FDP should at least win 1 or 2 (or even more?) of the direct seats, what will not give them full representation (if they remain generally below 5%), though.

Yes, the old "Britain doesn't know how to do housing like Germany" line is nonsense. Rents in Cologne are frightening.
The newspapers in Britain find some old boy renting a flat off another old boy for thirty years and hail it as if it's normal. Despite it being two old friends living in Bingen or Tegernsee.

München prices are terrifying and you'll be lucky to find something in Tegernsee for less than 1,000€ a month cold. Buying in Tegernsee 1-Zimmer-Apartment, 33 m 2 - 295,000€ 3-Zimmer-Apartment, 120m 2 - 1,138,800€ Start adding Lake Views and it gets very silly quick. It must be said Tegernsee is very beautiful, very civilised and has an excellent brewery.

Provisionally, the FDP have scraped it with 5.003%, didn't qualify until the last 5 boxes.

FDP needed 199,143. They're on 199,263.
