All three Kenyan parties have now voted for the coalition agreement in Saxony. And in Thuringia Ramelov's party has voted for a Red-Red-Green minority government which would be four seats short, and will hold talks with the SPD and the Greens. Both the CDU and the FDP have stated that they wouldn't support that. Which reminds the 'poppy note' phase in the recent Walloon government formation process. And yes civil society also got mentioned. web.de/magazine/politik/wahlen/landtagswahlen/thueringen/ramelow-notfall-regierung-parteilosen-experten-34214216That article also says that the CDU won't compete for the Minister-President job. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that it isn't straightforward to vote Ramelov out of office in the current situation, but have forgotten about the specifics. The corresponding vote seems to be in February. Wow! Who is running Kenya? AfD/ CD/ FDP get to run Kenya. Its all part of the deal, didn't you know?

What means, by the way, that the GREENS will have more InFluence in the BundesRat than the SPD.

Bavarian Landtag election poll by Infratest dimap. Fieldwork time ranges: 8-13/1 & (3-7/1/19). Sample size of 1004. CSU 36% (+1) Grüne 25% (+4) FW 10% (-3) AfD 10% (+2) SPD 7% (-2) FDP 4% (-2) Linke 3% (±0) Others 5% (±0)
This is the highest score for the second placed party in Bavaria polling since August 2002. They'll have local elections in within a couple months. www.wahlrecht.de/umfragen/landtage/bayern.htmThat pollster also has the Greens and the SPD evens on 29% for the 23/02 Hamburg Bürgerschaft election.

That new SPD leadership is really working out for them it seems. It is Bavaria and it'll take a while for anything to filter through, if indeed it ever does

That new SPD leadership is really working out for them it seems. Could be. If one pulls the slider below the encephalogram on pollytix.de/wahltrend/ back til 2009, and then looks at what happened in the run-up to the 2013 vote, that might be what they're up to. It just did work out less for them than for the chancellor's club¹ back then. [1] after Kanzlerwahlverein

It is Bavaria and it'll take a while for anything to filter through, if indeed it ever does I know that's the image of the Freistaat, but it's far more nuanced than that. After all, the Greens continue to gain in Bavaria, and it is also the only western Bundesland to vote for the Free Voters in any numbers. The latter is quite radical for the old Bonn Republic states.

I'll take a punt that the SPD won't come top in a single Stadtbezirk in München and that the Greens may even get a majority in Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt (even if they don't, they'll run it with the Gays).

The Freistaat is very nuanced, there are some very modern, very wealthy areas, some parts of it particularly in Franconia don't seem that different from the rest of Catholic Germany, some parts of it can even pass for normal for Norfolk, some of the deeply rural bits can't even manage that. Mind you, this year, it's the Baltic Coast for the annual Holiday. Not really done Vorpommern before.

Vorpommern sounds intriguing.

I will report back, at the moment, the intention is to base ourselves in Stralsund for a few days.

Pommerania has always vaguely intrigued me and has been lurking on my list of places to visit for some time, Stralsund in particular. (The name always vaguely reminds me of Strelsau in The Prisoner of Zenda, which I think of as a portmanteau of Stralsund and Breslau/Wroclaw) Do let us know what you think of it.

Vorpommern sounds intriguing. I watched Ireland beat England at Twickenham in the 2006 Six Nations at the Garmisch Irish Pub. Lively atmosphere for the evening game having been very few of us in for the Italy - Scotland game earlier. Skiing was excellent and a very friendly place.

Breslau/Wroclaw is a fascinating city. Norman Davies (and Roger Moorhouse) wrote a very good book about it called "Microcosm: Portrait of a European City".

Breslau/Wroclaw is a fascinating city. Mrs TheGriff's family estate is in the area. Not that she will ever reclaim it. (This fact may explain why I was particularly unimpressed by Strontium's comparing Brexit with the Nazi treatment of Jews. Even Jews who had converted decades earlier to Christianity.)
