All three parties have approved the Program For Government. FG - YES 80%, NO 20%. FF - YES 74% NO 26%. Green Party - YES 76% NO 24%. Coalition will be formed tomorrow with Micheál Martin as Taoiseach. Are they all ballots of party membership? Or just the TDs?

Aside from the environmental stuff, what are the Green Party's demands? Erase 2007 to 2011 from the history books and make all mention of it a criminal offence?

Surprising, that Dr.Varadkar didn't take Health. And that ForeignAffairs and Defence are put together.

Surprising, that Dr.Varadkar didn't take Health. And that ForeignAffairs and Defence are put together. Health is sort of the Black Hole of Calcutta of Irish politics, no-one who goes there ends with their reputation completely unscathed. Basically you divide the Cabinet posts as such: - The ones where you can do a lot of culture war posturing and some incremental reforms (but anything major is unlikely to be deemed a priority by Finance, especially post-Covid): Those go to the Greens. - The ones where you get to run supposedly unfixable public services and get a high profile for failing to fix them: Those go to Fianna Fail. - The ones where you get to run the main machinery of state and most importantly, keep control of the Finances: Those go to Fine Gael. Only Taoiseach itself and DPER somewhat go against that pattern.

Only Taoiseach itself and DPER somewhat go against that pattern. Good categorization. Still: Why get ForeignAffairs and and its supply - Defence - merged? Quite unique wordwide. And for the next 1-2 years Health would be highly attractive for obvious reasons.

Ireland has a small army whose main functions are civil support and UN peacekeeping so it's not a major position (but is specifically mentioned in the constitution as a separate department). Health has major long-term issues with access (bipartite public/private system, long waiting lists for elective surgery broadly-defined, long waiting times in ER) which will reassert themselves once the COVID restrictions are over.

Interesting shared interests between Biffo 2 and The Cap of Power 2.
At least Biffo didn't bother with the driving part.

Barry Cowan out, and replaced by Dara Calleary, which helps perceptions of the government ignoring the Wet coast. How many people in Ireland drive for years and years on a provisional licence? I had been led to believe it was standard behaviour, by my mate who did it for a decade or so before he moved to London. Mind you, my mate is from the Kingdom of Healy-Rae, so I shouldn't be too surprised. It's been highly amusing to see the rural independents lining up to not criticise him for drink driving.

My colleague in Dublin made me laugh yesterday by claiming that Kerry residents have to buy their Internet in Calor Gas bottles once a month.

Speaking of SF, I noted that funeral a few weeks ago where Mary Lou was trying to make it sound like Shinner funerals are able to ward off the 'rona.

For the sake of completeness, Aontu is on 2%, which is +2 on Ireland Thinks last poll.
