What time are we expecting the result to be announced? It does not appear that there will be a by-election special on TV TV specials seem to be very much of the past. Sky News will sometimes go to the result in the middle of other programming. Does BBC Parliament not have a budget for actually making programs, then?

It depends on the type. The ones who sound offended by being asked are straightforward againsts, the secrecy of the ballot box type can safely be assumed to be Lib Dem unless a neighbour says otherwise. You mean all the "secret ballot " types I always had down as antis were really closet Lib Dems all along? I doubt it somehow. To be fair, that's mostly based upon canvassing in Cambridge. Where there is a very particular type of voter who says that.

On a run back home through a chunk of Lewisham East tonight (primarily Lee Green and Whitefoot) I saw a handful or so of posters outside houses - I think they were all on or near Verdant Lane and Whitefoot Lane (so in Whitefoot ward). Actually it's more than I would have expected (i.e. probably none) for this area in a by-election. All Labour bar one Lib Dem "Winning Here".
I'm surprised it's generated enough interest to care who finishes second here (I saw on a non-political forum someone comment on the point the Lib Dems may finish second).

I don’t think we can be arsed in by elections where we don’t have a chance.

I don’t think we can be arsed in by elections where we don’t have a chance. Well, actually, judging by twitter the Tories have been working pretty hard.. James Cleverly seems to be there every day with another couple of groups of 20 outside activists. They have all, without exception, been getting a "great response on the doorstep"
On the other hand judging by his brief appearance on C4, the candidate is pretty unimpressive

I've been down a few times, enjoying the train timetable as I go. The other day I was doing some leafleting and quite by chance discovered that the section we'd been given included my old school's sports ground. The main response on the door on that particular occasion was politeness from everyone out front and only one very hostile dog which my co-leafletter had the pleasure of delivering to.
There was a hustings arranged last night that got shut down by a mob including people waving Socialist Workers Party placards despite Anne Marie Waters having already decided not to attend on police advice.

Was that on the South Circular, just outside Catford (towards Lee)? There was a big kerfuffle there with lots of police presence but a fairly small group of shouters similar to what you describe. Most seemed to have placards about anti-racism and Islamaphboia from what I could see.

I would say from all I hear the candidate is astoundingly unimpressive. Why are the Tories trying as hard as they are? Well, losing a deposit would be pretty embarrassing, wouldn't it?
