Lib Dems have selected. Confirmed by another Lewisham source too, who was at the selection meeting earlier:

I’ve noticed that there aren’t very many women on this forum, which is a shame given the subjects we sometimes discuss, abortion for example, that would benefit massively from female input. Is it an atmospheric problem with the forum? I don’t think so. That’s a hugely patronising thing to suggest. Women don’t need to be mollycoddled and can handle themselves.

I doubt that Brexit will prove to be the key issue of this campaign.

All women shortlists have led to an increase in female representation within the PLP. Women now make up 45% of Labour MPs (compared to 21% of Conservatives). All women shortlists have had a significant impact on increasing female representation, without it I have serious doubts Labour would have reached a stage where we approach parity. The party may choose an AWS here, and may make it a BAME AWS - I would support this as a move towards a parliamentary party that more accurately reflects the people who live here. I have never accepted the need for gender parity for its own sake , and on principle refuse to support a gender-vetted candidate. I live in the key marginal of Norwich North which did select from such a shortlist. As a result I will spoil my Ballot Paper at the General Election. Why spoil rather than vote for some other party's candidate?

I had considered the option of voting Green, but have decided to spoil my ballot paper. Towards the end of the count the candidates & agents are called together by the Returning Officer to examine the Spoilt Ballot Papers. I have come to the view that presenting the Labour Candidate and her agent with a written statement - ie'I am unable to support a gender vetted candidate' will have more impact!

First up only the agents will go to the adjudication. Secondly ballots overwritten with scripts will be tossed after a cursory glance. Am afraid your gesture will only have impact with yourself.

At times the candidates also look at spoilt ballots, but otherwise you are right. An obviously spoilt ballot is unlikely to be in the adjudication. It is only the uncertain ones that tend to be looked at.

I have considerable sympathy with what you say here. I would be more inclined to stay at home and voice your dissatisfaction to those responsible for allowing such discrimination.

I doubt that Brexit will prove to be the key issue of this campaign. The lib Dems will attack Labour on Brexit and perceived failings of the local council. Labour will concentrate on pretending they are fighting the Tories and then attack on tuition fees at the last minute. Tories will try to hold the Brexit vote

Downham Whitefoot and Grove Park wards are where the Brexit vote is concentrated here. And in some pockets of Catford South and Lee Green too.

Tories will try to hold the Brexit vote we had quite sustained attacked from the lib dems trying to turn our by election into a second referendum. We found that by sticking it to local politics. Talking up our candidate. Her track record. People responded better.

I have been a candidate myself and was certainly invited to view the doubtful ballot papers. Moreover, I suspect that an arrow placed directly alongside the candidate's name together with my comments might well suffice to ensure its inclusion.
