I will be ON FDP watch as it could be close and its fun to see how many "green parties" are standing with 5 at the last election.

Mayoral election in Mainz thanks for reminding me, i'd forgotten about that. Let's see, what problems do the nouveaux riche pandemic-profiteers have? (Biontech's Gewerbesteuern have completely obliterated the city's debts.) www.mainz-o-mat.de/Only one alsoran candidate? Bleh. Edit: this leaves out one candidate, but he's not AfD but PARTEI.

One of the best aDNA labs in Europe is in Mainz. You're not allowed into any part of the lab if you've been into another university building at all that day

They paid so much tax in the last two years, they have basically paid off the city's debts and why you are seeing an election campaign with politicians promising to spend money and in some cases cut the property taz.

A bizarre curiosity: While the borough elections are also being repeated, the (proportional from the borough assembly) elections of borough gov'ts are not. They'd need to resign or be recalled by a 2/3s vote of the assembly...

Exit polls CDU 28 or 27.5. That's a lot. SPD 18 or 18.5 Greens 18 or 18.5. Tied in both! Left 13 or 12.5 AfD 9 FDP 5 or 4.5 other 9 or 9.5, too splintered to matter.
Well, it's an easy r2g majority. Now they just need to want to continue. Which kind of depends on who comes first, I guess. On these numbers blackred or blackgreen are possible, certainly if the FDP fails. Turnout expected in the 63-5 range, a little below 16. (Well below 21 but that was held on ge day)

Edit2: While Nino Haase is an independent, he is no alsoran. He was the nominally independent joint CDU-FDP-FW candidate last time around (just a few years ago - the SPD man who beat him joined the state cabinet, hence this snap election). With two precincts (that may be totally unrepresentative) in, he's leading hugely and on almost 50%.

Mainz is clearly getting an indy vs green runoff. With the indy way ahead and CDU votes for grabs. Should be favored.

Hands down the weirdest weirdos standing tomorrow: For the benefit of non German speakers "where do you want to live in 800 years", and "unlimited long life for all"

Meanwhile Always a good reminder. (Also helps to remember that parents of minors will be underrepresented in the CDU and SPD piles too.)

My German is decent enough but as with Dutch (and to a lesser extent French) my vocabulary is frustratingly small I didn't really know the word but Grenze is border, so read it as "unbordered". I can stagger through a red top newspaper in German - 3 years here now and obviously you do pick up vocabulary, but can barely a sentence together orally. I just don't understand the accent here.

Yeah, there are more straightforward ways of saying "immortality for all" in German, but that's basically what that means. Not sure what happened. Were they always such farout cranks but used to hide it better? Or was there a hostile takeover of this splinterparty? Or a bit of both? (I'm guessing it's not the 2nd one, actually.)

For a second I thought that said "Immorality for all" which has a different kind of appeal to voters.

He was the nominally independent joint CDU-FDP-FW candidate last time around What a mad concept. He must be the most bourgeois man to walk the earth. Which fits very well in Mainz. Lovely place - spent a week based out of there last year doing the Rhein wine villages.
