The candidate in the county contest made the parliamentary shortlist for Cambridge. I've heard suggestions that I find very believable that she got on mostly to make sure that a third male candidate could also be shortlisted.
This is the sort of county division that needs somebody experienced, competent and very community-focused. I'm not convinced it has somebody who would clearly pass their panel interview.
That said, I get all this from one leaflet and having heard her speak for 10 minutes - I've got no idea what she's like on the doorstep.

I gave this one to the Lib Dems as the media report of the meeting which took place on Saturday (which the Conservative candidate declined to attend) had Derrick Murphy being critical of the Lib Dem candidate and not reporting any comments about the others. So I assumed the Lib Dems are deemed to be the bigger threat here.

This is clearly the crucial by-eletcion for the prediction contest. If Labour win then Andrews lead should be assured whatevr happens in the other 7 contests. If not then tyhings get much more interesting And rather like Carmarthenshire in the referendum on Welsh devolution it is keeping us guessing to the end. One of the most exciting finishes I can remember for a while |

With 2 results to come, it looks like Andrew Teale is in the lead with Pete Whitehead second 16.4 faults behind, strinity third just another 0.3 faults behind and East AnglianLefty a further 5.7 faults adrift.

With one result to go Andrew is still in the lead with strinity 6.7 faults behind, EAL 0.4 faults behind him and myself 2.4 faults behind him. Just seen reported that Labour have won the county council seat which will confirm Andrews lead. GKR is only a further 26 faults behind me at this stage so looks like a tight 4 way race for second place now

Congratulations to Andrew - we made him sweat a bit but a clear win in the end. And well done to gkr for sneaking into his traditional second place again this month. I had no knowledge of this incinerator issue so this shows the importance of research (there's not always time when there's 8 by-elections and you've left it until wednesday evening). Still it was the Dunbartonshire result that really scuppered my chances this month
