Is there another amalgamation as with the county divisions? That's a very impressive personal vote here for the Lib Dem councillor, even more than in the county division. Probably bodes well for the Tories to make gains here.

Is there another amalgamation as with the county divisions? Yes there were ward boundary changes ahead of the 2015 elections. The old Bradpole ward was merged with Bridport North (again with a small part of another ward added to. Bradpole was a very safe Tory ward and the top polling Tory candidate in 2015 was the councillor for that ward ( the other Conservative elected was the other councillor for Bridport North). The electorate of Bridport North in 2015 was over 6,000 whereas it was only about 3,500 in the previous ward of the same name so again comparisons with earlier years are not all that meaningful.

I have been hampered by the fact that LEAP hasn't yet been sorted for this patch ( no pretty maps for the new boundaries) and the local website is pretty poor and incomplete- the 2015 figures here come from wikipedia. I am now in respite mode in my home circumstances so will get a little more time (3 days, then I'm away) to try and get on top of this- my domestic situation has been pretty desperate of late.

But Blue Revolution is a registered political party and is now one standing candidates against the official Conservative candidate. If the local MP is indeed supporting them that should be a biggie for the defections thread. The BR candidate gives an address in Boston town, by the way, so I am dubious about his chances in the very rural villages of OLd Leake and Wrangle. "Following" someone on Twitter is not the same as supporting them. It's far more likely that the Tory MP is adopting a "know thine enemy" strategy. I've been to Wrangle - a distant ancestor of SWMBO is buried in the churchyard there. It is very rural indeed. yes I did appreciate that this was follower in the twitter sense so not necessarily a supporter, but I read EAL's post, perhaps wrongly, as suggesting some support for BR and a good old defection story would brighten us all up. Still haven't been able to follow up my Old Leake connection yet as the person I need to speak to is currently skiing in the Pyrenees.

North Kesteven offers some light relief for this set of elections- I love the name of the ward and even better I love the names of the candidates - honestly I didn't make them up! Not a huge amount of interest in the electoral history though, so I have included the 2003 results for a ward with a somewhat different name and seemingly much smaller vote, but as far as I can tell much the same borders. Any experts in North Kesteven politics who can elucidate welcome. I do know by the way that the Lincolnshire Independents are a completely different set of politicians from the Independents, so we have the distinct possibility here of a gain by LI from Ind.

Bryn is another ward with a peculiar recent electoral history, with quite a strong tendency towards independents or at least non-mainstream candidates doing well. Whether that will go so far as to elect an independent whose resignation caused the by-election in the first place time will tell!
