I have not been to any of the by-elections in the last round, nor did I get any excited little emails to attend any of them.

I thought that this may help. Apparently there was a flurry of late bets before the Bradford West shock which is not happening now. My contacts on the ground in Rotherham tell me were going to win comfortably.

I have just created an event using Blyve.com (as an alternative to Cover it Live) to cover the by-elections tomorrow evening. I will be starting it at 10.00pm GMT (as the polls close) and using both Twitter and the UK news channels for information, but would be very appreciative if members wouldn't mind dropping in and posting any interesting information they have about either the constituency or past electoral trends. Now I would expect Labour to tell one paper it's close between them and Respect and to another that it's close between them and UKIP.

I would guess that 2nd is a close 3 way thing between those 2 and the Tories unless they have not been trying. Any knowledge on that would help.

Quite. There are no polls. Just political betting - Respect are drifting and quoted at 5 to 1 at best in Rotherham. Suspect UKIP will out poll Respect.

I've been in Rotherham every day for the past 10 days and I'm impressed with our campaign.

I've seen leaflets from almost every party but only physically seen activists from Respect and a lone Lib Dem canvasser.

Somebody has suggested in another place that Ladbrokes has odds of 5/4 on Labour to win here, but I've looked on their site and can see nothing on any of the by-elections. Perrhaps they take them down on polling day? In any case surely this cannot have been the case - absurd odds if true

Helen Pidd on Twitter is suggesting that UKIP might spring a suprise in Rotherham. IIRC she was the first journalist to seriously suggest that Galloway had a chance of winning in Bradford West.

I wish I'd put a bet on UKIP when Kris did. I did thiknk about it but I've thrown away too much money lately on long odds bets which haven't come off. I'm still very doubtful that UKIP will win or even be all that close but by-elections are funny animals once a bandwagon gets rolling
