The Lib Dem candidate in Rotherham looks verily much like a Goth I used to know... Ianbhx - any clues? I have not been to any of the by-elections in the last round, nor did I get any excited little emails to attend any of them. And I wouldn't know most LD candidates from Adam unless they are West Midlands ones - I only rarely make it to conference (like once in the last decade).

Sheffield Tory (yes, they do exist) Vonny Watts on Twitter:
So would she be happy if the BNP won?

(Multiple post, one in each of the three by-election topics) I have just created an event using Blyve.com (as an alternative to Cover it Live) to cover the by-elections tomorrow evening. I will be starting it at 10.00pm GMT (as the polls close) and using both Twitter and the UK news channels for information, but would be very appreciative if members wouldn't mind dropping in and posting any interesting information they have about either the constituency or past electoral trends. The link for the event is blyve.com/event/8161b650057a340e86000000

I would guess that 2nd is a close 3 way thing between those 2 and the Tories unless they have not been trying. Any knowledge on that would help.

Respect to pull of a surprise? Leading Labour in the polls.. What polls? Quite. There are no polls. Just political betting - Respect are drifting and quoted at 5 to 1 at best in Rotherham. Suspect UKIP will out poll Respect.

She didn't attend the hustings. AIUI the official reason was that her time would be better spent canvassing. Excuse it may be, but this one is pretty much always true.

I've been in Rotherham every day for the past 10 days and I'm impressed with our campaign.
I've seen leaflets from almost every party but only physically seen activists from Respect and a lone Lib Dem canvasser.

I've not seen any Labour whilst out and about. I'm sure they were plenty.

Somebody has suggested in another place that Ladbrokes has odds of 5/4 on Labour to win here, but I've looked on their site and can see nothing on any of the by-elections. Perrhaps they take them down on polling day? In any case surely this cannot have been the case - absurd odds if true

The betfair page had the shortest odds for Labour as 6/1 on when I last looked (this morning)

Helen Pidd on Twitter is suggesting that UKIP might spring a suprise in Rotherham. IIRC she was the first journalist to seriously suggest that Galloway had a chance of winning in Bradford West.

I wish I'd put a bet on UKIP when Kris did. I did thiknk about it but I've thrown away too much money lately on long odds bets which haven't come off. I'm still very doubtful that UKIP will win or even be all that close but by-elections are funny animals once a bandwagon gets rolling

I'm looking forward to my £80. I'll be eating good dinners every night next month.
