yes but in solid safe seats it is harder to GOTV when the result is not in doubt. Do we expect high turnouts (40% plus) in any of the ones to come ?

The 1994 Rotherham by-election was on local election day in May, which might have helped the LibDems.
The others were on Euro election day in June, when Labour were still benefiting from the "halo effect" following the death of John Smith.
(and, of course, they had a scare in Monklands E soon after)

(and, of course, they had a scare in Monklands E soon after) I went to help in the 1994 byelection. It was the first time for donkeys years that the Liberal Democrats had managed to have a full slate of candidates for the local elections within the Rotherham constituency.

This by-election has been featured on the local ITV News, Calendar.
Despite the other big story giving Rotherham the limelight, to my amazement there was absolutely no specific mention of the UKIP candidate, nor the controversy surrounding the local council - just a brief 20 second slot each for the Labour, Conservative and Lib Dem candidates to say something. It was as though the two stories have nothing at all to do with each other.

Heading up to Rotherham later today to help out, should be an interesting election. Expect Labour to still romp home but who comes where after that is hard to call Are you helping Marlene? Good luck if you are. UKIP are trying to steal BNP votes, so I think BNP need to be out everyday even on Thurdsay right up to 10pm. A couple of years back i would have been helping Marlene but not anymore

Revises UKIP prediction downwards. The Hamiltons are "on maneuvers" appearing at campaigning events here there and everywhere. You can fully expect one, or both of the, to run for for highly remunerated public office within the next two years.

I'm surprised they didn't go for a PCC position.

I'm surprised they didn't go for a PCC position. Why on earth do you think they would waste their time going for a position that a) They would be unlikely to win b) Wound involve serious responsibility if they did win

A few PCCs might confine their role to rubber-stamping Home Office budgets and directions, and going round the county visiting police stations and patting officers on the head. They might just manage that. But Brussels, I suppose, has its compensations....

Are you helping Marlene? Good luck if you are. UKIP are trying to steal BNP votes, so I think BNP need to be out everyday even on Thurdsay right up to 10pm. A couple of years back i would have been helping Marlene but not anymore If you are helping the ED's you might want to think again after reading this from Robin Tilbrook on his blog: "We all know that the BNP are thankfully finished. The English Democrats have cause to thank Hope not Hate for their part in helping us accomplish this. Civic English nationalism will always been thankful for the demise in the British National Party (BNP) as we all want to see a moderate and integrated society in England" - ED's worked with Hope not Hate to try and crush the BNP. And Tilbrook admits his party is a civic nationalist party that is committed to multiracialism. As for this statement: "We all know that the BNP are thankfully finished". If that is true why did BNP still poll higher than the ED's in Corby? The BNP is not finished. Despite all that happened no other nationalist party could replace it. And its now picking up members again.
