I'm glad i'm out of the country. It seems the only thing I missed out on as a result of not being at home was the awful frustration caused by our pathetic excuse of a national broadcaster

Tories' and Lib Dems' votes down, everybody else's up. UKIP save their deposit, coming third. That would normally be a good result for them, but it's their worst of the three tonight. Greens just five votes behind the Lib Dems, but comfortably ahead of Jasper.
With any luck, Galloway will stop assuming he can win a by-election anywhere in the country now...

As I said last night, with a bit of luck there will be some amateur footage of the declaration made available. It's sad to think there was a time when all or most parliamentary by-elections were dedicated a special programme. The broadcasters' failure to cover them doesn't help to boost turnout or create public interest.

I am surprised they are more communists than loonies. It just shows every party suffers from vote splitting, thats to say John can get all the loonies to vote for him next time a communist doesn't stand

nah doubt that ! very good set of result for us and hopefully signs of things to come I don't think that one result constitutes a 'set' but yes - a clear sign Croydon North will continue to be a very safe Labour seat in future (as if such a sign were needed)

Targets I was aiming for:
More than 193 (what I got in Croydon Central in 2005) More than 192 (what I got in Croydon Central in 2010) More than 188 (what I got in Ealing Southall in 2007) More than 132 (what I got in Bromley & Chislehurst in 2006) More than 100 (so that Kris could win his bet with Ladbrokes)
More than 0.51% (E.S.) More than 0.45% (B. & Ch.) More than 0.39% (Cr C)
What I got was 0.45% (again) and 110 votes. My first reaction was slight disappointment that I hadn't quite reached the target of 0.5% (123) which I had been hoping for; My second reaction was that I was happy that Kris would win his bet. My third reaction was disappointment that I had not managed to beat either the Communist Party or the National Front. My fourth reaction was satisfaction that I got more than the 0.39% which I got in Croydon Central in the last two general elections.

I share John's disappointment. I was hoping he would get more votes.
In terms of vote share, I am pleasantly surprised how much the Conservatives held up. The swing to Labour is 8%, about the same as Cardiff South & Penarth although admittedly that isn't as strongly Labour as Croydon North.

Oh I see you were referring to all three by-elections. And you really think Rotherham was a good result?

Congratulations to John on getting as much as a quarter of the number of votes that one of the parties currently governing the country received in Rotherham.

yes given the circumstances of a corrupt MP, a controversial selection, the foster row and low turnout. I was fearful of a much more tighter result.

I haven't finished all the kerfuffling I want to do, but I'm too tired at the moment and I need to go to bed first before I come back later with more kerfufflle.

Marvellous. . Thanks SA and also to whoever recorded and uploaded it to YouTube. JohnLoony will be pleased because he recorded Sky News but they didn't show the declaration.

In it's own way, this is probably the LDs worst result of the three as I'd guess that they maybe hoped that their vote would hold up better here than in Rotherham. and defiinitely the Conservatives' best result.
Slightly disappointed that the Greens didn't do better here, but I'd guess with all the attention around UKIP and Respect it was hard to get any momentum going.
