I wouldn't be surprised if the turnouts today are up just a bit on the dismal ones we saw in Manchester and Cardiff a fortnight ago........
Further proof, perhaps, that the PCC elections actually put some people off voting generally??

Does anyone have the electorate for Croydon North (or indeed the other by-elections tonight)?

Croydon North is the constituency of the father of the National Health Service - the Minister of Health who introduced the NHS White Paper.

Croydon North is expected to declare at around 2.30am. My plan is to go to bed at 7, and get up at 2... Have an exalt for that! Also good luck John.

Croydon North is the constituency of the father of the National Health Service - the Minister of Health who introduced the NHS White Paper. Do you happen to know the basis (if any) for the extraordinary story on Willink's wikipedia page, suggesting that sacks of service votes were left uncounted in Croydon North at the 1945 GE, when Willink survived by only 607 votes?

All I can tell you is: Civilian residential electorate 68,860 (of which 7 were absent voters) Business Premises register 78 Service Register 8,656 (of which 5,600 had appointed proxies) (source: Return of Parliamentary Electors, 1944-45 HCP 107) Postal votes cast: 4,038 (source: Return of Election Expenses, 1945-46 HCP 128) Which tends to suggest the story is not true.

Fantastic news. My initial instinct was to forecast a lost deposit for Jasper but unfortunately I took the rumours partially into account in lifting his share to 6% in the prediction competition.

Croydon Banlieu is a Labour hold, but for some reason the declaration was not broadcast.

Idiots - declaration in Croydon N is going on right now, and neither Sky nor BBC are bothering, even though BBC News specifically asked us to stay around. Total insult, and a shame for John.

Utterly crap coverage all round.
I think amateurs are going to have to start broadcasting the result themselves very soon.

Sky News just got round to announcing that Labour had won Croydon North before cutting to adverts 5 seconds later.

Just as they did for the Cardiff declaration a few weeks ago - which was then totally missed as they insisted on airing a pre-recorded foreign story Genuinely, not good enough.
