I gather they are linking to one new candidate's answers each day.

Who is throwing their money away on Respect here, FFS?? I don't know, but Honest Iain is willing to offer them better odds ;D

The person betting on Respect is obviously either someone who thinks Croydon North bears some kind of strong resemblance to Bradford West which everyone else correctly knows is nonsense or it's a Respect supporter who has let their hopes of victory get out of control.

I can see you've clearly never fought elections in Scotland.

I can see you've clearly never fought elections in Scotland. That would be rather difficult; the last time I was in Scotland was when you and I were aged -14 and +6 respectively. Not even I am anoraky enough to have been politically active at that stage.

Yesterday (Tuesday) was the first day of processing postal votes. PVs were sent out on 20th Nov to the 11,096 people entitled to them; so far 2945 have been returned and processed. I have observed the process, so from now on I am not allowed to give any clues or predictions about the likely result of the election, based on any clues I may have seen at the opening.
A note of caution on the number returned: in a previous recent election in Croydon, the A.R.O. and his staff were concerned about the fact that several thousand PVs had been delivered to the council on one day,and only a few hundred the next. Repeated phone calls to the Royal Mail to check resulted in assurances being given that all PVs had been delivered. It subsequently tuned out that the Royal Mail had been lying and that several thousand PVs had been held back, some for several days.
I don't know if such delays have happened again this time, but the turnout of 27% of PVs so far should be taken with a pinch of salt - even without taking into account the fact that we still have 2 days to go.

27% sounds quite low. So I hope the RM is holding back some PVs. Otherwise we could look for a turnout similar to PCC elections (40% among postal voters).
Red Ken is back on the campaign trail today. I read (it was some Labourite complaining about it) that Jasper suggested at the Mosque hustings that Livingstone's going senile because of his backing to Reed.

(Multiple post, one in each of the three by-election topics) I have just created an event using Blyve.com (as an alternative to Cover it Live) to cover the by-elections tomorrow evening. I will be starting it at 10.00pm GMT (as the polls close) and using both Twitter and the UK news channels for information, but would be very appreciative if members wouldn't mind dropping in and posting any interesting information they have about either the constituency or past electoral trends. The link for the event is blyve.com/event/8161b650057a340e86000000

That's a very interesting article by Andrew Pelling, it will be interesting to see how that maps out.

I like the idea of a Cardiff South and Penrith constituency...

A further 702 PVs today, making a total of 5027 so far. A further c.300 are likely to be handed in at polling stations during the day.

Good luck John. Hopefully the declaration is going to televised live, or at least filmed and posted here and/or on YouTube.

Croydon North is expected to declare at around 2.30am. My plan is to go to bed at 7, and get up at 2...

Good luck John. Hopefully the declaration is going to televised live, or at least filmed and posted here and/or on YouTube. I reckon that the BBC is so useless these days that I can't trust them any more to cover by-elections properly at all. So - for the first time ever - I intend to set the video to record Sky (and cross my fingers that the declaration(s) will be covered properly. I will rely on other people (hopefully) to make sure they record from BBC (and put it on Youtube).

Good luck John from me too.
Jasper tweets turnout is struggling to reach 20%. I don't know if he is factoring postal votes.
Lee Jasper @leejasper #Croydon North turnout probably under 20% very slow traffic ...
