sorry Iain, just checked her twitter and was an heart attack .. I had been told he had died, my apologies.
However whilst you could say all that about Galloway I do believe Salma is different from him and showed her principles when she walked away. The fact Respect in their party title put his name on says it all

She is not the Saint that some Labour figures would make her out to be; although it is to be applauded that she finally couldn't stick Galloway.

your right and I am aware that she is not well liked by many but I do think she had principles and in public appearances stuck to them.

Even *I* haven't killed anyone off through it, and you've got rid of at least two!

Apart from the prominent Labour Party campaign headquarters in London Road (which used to be Malcolm Wicks's constituency office), today I saw my first sign of campaign activity by other parties: two posters in shop windows in Thornton Heath High Street which said "I'm voting for Winston McKenzie - no more leaflets please". They had a prominent photo of Winston McKenzie, and the name "UKIP" in very small font at the bottom of the page.

I am guessing she has only just logged into twitter after a few days. I didn't realise myself the candidate had been chosen as I haven't been on this thread for a few days.

I gather that the writ was not moved today, but a reliable source says it is expected to be moved tomorrow - in time for an election on 29th November. If it is delayed any further, my 1200 election leaflets which I produced yesterday will be made to look silly.
In another development today, the Labour candidate Steve Reed has announced that he will only resign as leader of Lambeth council if he is elected as MP for Croydon North. In my opinion, this is an entirely sensible decision, which shows that Labour (a) is not taking the voters for granted (b) knows it faces a strong challenge from the OMRLP (c) knows that it faces a strong challenge from Respect
P.S. I was joking with option (c)

Are you having a campaign HQ or any mass action days, John? I know we all want to descend and help your campaign to its inexorable victory. My campaigning so far comprises walking along the main roads (where the shops and crowds are) with a placard. I had a few leaflets printed yesterday so that I can hand them out to passers-by. My campaign HQ is my house, and my mass action is walking all the way from the town centre to Upper Norwood and back by various different routes.

Still no writ, as far as I can tell. People have been tweeting that if the writ is not moved today, the by-election will not be until 13th December instead of 29th November.
Why not 6th December?
And is the delay a cunning plan to make my leaflets look silly, which I have already printed with the date of 29th November on them? Or will they become valuable collectors' items, like the Edward VII coronation mugs?

Ah I see - I look like a complete booliak now.

6th December would make sense, but maybe that clashes with one of the seemingly innumerable Commons recesses??
And if (as I suspect) 29 Nov is just a shade too early to comfortably fit Rotherham in, then 13 Dec (exactly a year after Feltham & Heston) it probably is.
