I'm shocked. Truly shocked. And appalled, with two 'P's As long as Galloway doesn't take the P or both.

I asked Gareth Davies of the Croydon Advertiser why he thinks it's Shawcross v. Reed rather than Shawcross vs. Woodley, and he says it's the impression he has got from his sources. I guess that probably means that Valerie Shawcross is way ahead of either of the others.

I wasn't expecting that.

There was a local report that Shawcross was being told that she couldn't leave the Assembly before the borough elections, because of the expense to Labour. That might have damaged her.

I did, Reed is loved by the leadership, his co-op running of Lambeth has won plaudits from all spheres of politics and as I Said why would a sitting council leader go for a selection without knowing he had fair support.
Delighted he will be an Labour MP and predict quick promotion up the ranks. Again some of the new intake will flourish.

Can't say I am massively thrilled by this - hopefully Respect won't be able to make hay out of it

LabourList reports it was a 1 vote win. First round: Reed 89 Shawcross 87. Final round: Reed 97 Shawcross 96
Unless there has been a big untransferable rate, these figures probably mean few votes for the other 3 candidates.

I went to the aftermath of the selection meeting to congratulate the candidate; I didn't manage to meet Steve Reed (he had already left) but Valerie Shawcross said she lost by 3 votes. I'm surprised, but he must have been impressive to defeat both her and Louisa Woodley.

I'm going to place a bet on her being the next MP for Dulwich & West Norwood. Having said that, there would probably be no better time for an established figure to tackle Simon Hughes.

I'm going to place a bet on her being the next MP for Dulwich & West Norwood. Having said that, there would probably be no better time for an established figure to tackle Simon Hughes. she already fought him last time. I would say her 2010 result looks reasonable without being exciting. I guess the national political picture play a role in it. She's in mid 50s, so that's probably the last term for her to get selected somewhere. I agree that her best chance would be in Southwark/Lambeth area (possibly with an AWS). So either Jowell or Hoey retiring. I also think there could be some tough competition to get the nomination in these kind of London seats. Can't say I am massively thrilled by this - hopefully Respect won't be able to make hay out of it Galloway has already started to mock him on twitter. Something having to do with bruschetta. Oh, I see it's because of this video Jasper is doing the whole New Lab vs Real Lab battle. Isn't it so last decade or can it get a traction now? The tories have started the "it's not local" theme but I think even somebody from Na h-Eileanan an Iar could be the Tories here in 2012. Green Jenny Jones is upset because Val didn't win but I guess the world can get over that. Red Ken tweeted that Reed would be an excellent candidate. So no second vote for Jasper?

Can't say I am massively thrilled by this - hopefully Respect won't be able to make hay out of it why would they ?? Because they can? Because you have fallen for the red rhetoric of Saint Salma, what you forget is that Wespec' are throughly cynical little bar-stewards who will stoop at nothing. However, I don't think this is their sort of territory.

However, I don't think this is their sort of territory. that is the point though this is not their terrority so will make little impact I suspect. As for Salma, as her husband recently died and she left Respect I think that is a little uncalled for. Respect have only won in a one seat with one possible candidate who is a rabble rouser and I predict before 2015 he will decide BRadford is not for him like he did further south.

I think the enormous amount of respect (with a small r) that Galloway has shown for women since he won in Bradford will show through here in their result on the ground.

I know that Dr Chaudary had a heart attack recently, I wasn't aware he had passed away.
However, my point still stands, they were unprincipled back then and they will possibly be more unprincipled now.
