Would it be overly cynical to suppose that Cllr. Hancock's unhappiness with the contract was given an added edge by the fact he was offered a cabinet post by the leader of the Pembrokeshire Independent Group? Just asking. Ooo - you cynic, you! I hope you're thoroughly ashamed of yourself

What on earth could you possibly be suggesting about politics in Little Sicily Beyond Wales?

Plus I think you're also overestimating the electorate's willingness to have a fragmented party system where government gets determined not in the ballot box but in negotiations afterwards. I think that's a false generalisation though. You need only look to last year's Danish election, to see the coalitions were predetermined before the election, and the government was decided by a) which alliance (the Red or Blue) got the highest vote/seats b) which parties the voters decide to populate said alliances with. I can't imagine such flexibility, including the ability to vote against an unpopular party/faction without hurting your side would be sniffed at by voters here.

Ben Walker, South Gloucestershire Council for Bradley Stoke North from Con. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-18232542I understand he'll be presented as UKIPs newest Councillor at a meeting with Nigel Farage this evening in Bristol. At least that is what the BBC think: twitter.com/#!/robinmarkwell

I think he also represents Woodlands Ward on Bradley Stoke Town Council. He does indeed. I didn't want to mention defections at Parish/Town level but Ed Rose of the same ward is also meant to be defecting to UKIP at the same time.

Resignation letter says "under no circumstances would I have betrayed my group and resigned from the party if elected chair [of the Council]." Heh, there's a man with principles :-D

There's always one or two who resign this time of the year because they didn't get a job or in the case of chappie above from Sir Penfro, because he did. What's principles compared to an SRA or a chance to wear a shiny chain for a year.

You would have thought that he could have at least found someone capable of writing a coherent letter on his behalf.

How many cllrs have the Tories lost recently ? I know it's just after council AGMs, so there will be disappointed egos, but the numbers seem to be shifting from misfortune to carelessness....

Another one is Owen Watkin James of Scleddau, Pembs, now listed as unaffiliated rather than Conservative.

And Gruffydd Williams, the Independent candidate who defeated a sitting Llais Gwynedd councillor in Nefyn, has joined Llais Gwynedd. Wonder how he justifies that one... Isn't he related to Owain Williams?
