Dudley will almost certainly have all ups as there is a boundary review going on.

Two of those, ( the two that aren’t currently councillors) Simms and Millward, stood as Independents last year. Millward did quite well., as a defending councillor, got 705 votes and came 2nd the Tories. Simms didn’t, he got 56 votes and came 5th.

Westwood will be out on his arse to be honest unless Labour do something stupid with the selection. In all ups Ann Millward might stand a chance of getting a seat but I thought she might hold last time, but Gornal is going to Gornal. Cllr Keasey is ex-UKIP and fairly popular in his ward so might get in on a split. Of course, the question is, have there been deselections. Overall, I'm not getting the feeling that Dudley all ups will be that bad for the Tories but I don't think they'll keep control of the council but I'll wait to see the runners and riders before commenting too much.

Shaun Keasey is by some distance the most visible of the Sedgley councillors. Will that be enough to save him in what is normally a safe Tory ward? Dunno, but he's going down fighting if he goes down at all.

The boundary changes here seem to be extremely minor, with most wards entirely unchanged. As far as I can see the changes are confined to adjustment of the boundary of Upper Gornal & Woodsetton with its neighbours, and even smaller adjustments to Cradley & Wollescote. There are also a couple of minor changes to ward names.
I think it's reasonable to compare directly to the state before:
Current council: 42 Con, 26 Lab, 1 LD, 3 Ind
One Ind in Upper Gornal & Woodsetton was elected as Lab. The Ind in Sedgley, and the other Ind in UG&W were elected as Con.
Byelection: 2023, Aug - Cradley & Wollescote - LD gain from Lab by 21.8%.
Split wards (2023 result given): Brierley Hill - 2 Con, 1 Lab. Con hold over Lab by 3.5%. Brockmoor & Pensnett - 2 Lab, 1 Con. Lab gain from Con by 26.2%. Cradley & Wollescote - 1 Con, 1 Lab, 1 LD. Byelection above. Halesowen North - 2 Lab, 1 Con. Lab hold over Con by 14.1%. Lye & Stourbridge North - 2 Lab, 1 Con. Lab hold over Con by 19.5%. Netherton, Woodside & St Andrews - 2 Lab, 1 Con. Lab hold over Con by 38.5%. Quarry Bank & Dudley Wood - 2 Lab, 1 Con. Lab hold over Con by 16.5%. St James's - 2 Lab, 1 Con. Lab hold over Con by 13.3%. Upper Gornal & Woodsetton - 1 Lab, 1 Ind (ex-Lab), 1 Ind (ex-Con). Lab hold over Con by 19%.
Close wards (2023 result given): Gornal - Con hold over Ind by 8.6%.
2023 Candidate totals: 25 Con, 25 Lab, 21 LD, 20 Green, 4 Reform UK, 3 TUSC, 2 Libertarian, 4 Ind

But this is an area where UKIP did really well back in the day - you would have thought that Reform would be able to come up with more candidates here

Is there anywhere that isn't? Bolton True, though I presume they've benefited from their Bolton for Change alliance. They've got a full slate in Sunderland too.

Is there anywhere that isn't? Bolton Also Sandwell, where Reform have 18 candidates, up from 9 last year. Plymouth, 17 of 19. Hartlepool, full slate of 12. Walsall, 15. And Sunderland, full slate of 25. But overall, not a strong Reform showing (relative to perhaps inflated expectations).

I think this sort of thing really is quite inconsiderate on the part of the candidates. See also surnames Green, Greene etc.

Notably unimpressive from Reform there. Much of the former UKIP presence in Dudley joined the Tories, their fairly strong presence has lead to the problems within the Dudley Tories ranks. I'll be doing a bit of a rundown in a couple of weeks, I think we are probably looking at a Labour council but not one with a big majority.
