We can argue till the cows come home about partial renewal vs all-outs, multi- vs single-member wards and the voting system, but what we really need more of are councils without an even number of seats. Always perfectly avoidable under the current arrangements if the LGBCE could just knock some heads together.

The Lib Dems declined to do a deal with anyone, so the Tories remain in power in a deal with Labour finally getting the mayoralty and most important committee positions.
The new Tory cabinet has been criticised for being 9/10 older white men.

Mildly interesting that the Tories agreed to give Labour the mayoralty, since it means if there's a tie next time we've got the casting vote. Though I guess if the Tories had tried to hold on to it, the LDs might have voted for a Labour mayor anyway so better to concede it and maintain better relations? That said, next time Labour are defending 13 seats against only 9 for the Tories, so the chances of immediate further gains are limited.

What is your view on the ethnic composition of the Tower Hamlets cabinet My view is that people get the councillors they vote for, but I'd also note in passing that Dudley is 85% White per the most recent census - Tower Hamlets is 39% White and 35% Bangladeshi

I would guess that lack of experience was part of it - one councillor has been in place for less than a year, and two others are completely new. For the three of them to be part of the administration would be a very big step up

FWIW I've heard it's because Labour made it pretty clear that they didn't want to run the council.

My own ward ended up with three Aspire councillors despite them getting less than 30% of the vote. Tower Hamlets residents absolutely did not get the councillors they voted for.
