Edinburgh...the Stoke-on-Trent of Scotland? The pottery kilns at Portobello are long gone.... You'll have had your oatcakes...

The pottery kilns at Portobello are long gone.... You'll have had your oatcakes... you can never have too many oatcakes. The health food shop at the top of Broughton street has a big selection. The fan shaped ones from Orkney (?) are tremendous (and the cheapest).

Edinburgh...the Stoke-on-Trent of Scotland? Not (yet) enough weird and wonderful splinter groups for that.

Mark Shaw, elected for Bingley, Bradford Met, in 2015 as a Conservative is now sitting as a Bingley Independent. I understand it changed about 3w ago but I have no further information

Ends (at least for now) Labour's full slate of councillors there. No opposition councillor has been elected since 2006, and no Conservative for even longer. The Conservatives gained a seat in Chadwell Heath in a 2008 by-election

Hmm, with that rap sheet of former parties, I do hope his application has been vetted properly. Perhaps he's been on a journey, as they sometimes say ...
Dreadful hatchet job in the article, but I guess there's an agenda behind it.

"The next Stoke-on-Trent" never quite happens, I find. Newcastle-under-Lyme were challenging for the title prior to May with three separate Independent Groups.

Havering is obviously planning something, what with the four separate residents' groups (it was only three before the election in May).

We've currently got three seperate independent groups on my local authority: two from when the independent group split apart in late 2015/early 2016, and one comprised of former Plaid Cymru councillors who wanted to go ahead with a coalition with the Conservatives after the PC NEC said no.

Newcastle was one group originally elected as UKIP (Newcastle Independents), one who were a combination of a Green, a genuine Independent and a Lib Dem who defected to Labour before resigning due to Jeremy Corbyn’s anti Trident position (Borough Independents), and a group who quit Labour after one of their members wasn’t reselected ahead of last year’s County elections (Kidsgrove Independents). After May the Newcastle Indies were wiped out, the Borough Indies got two out of three and the Kidsgrove Indies one who has joined the Borough Indies, plus one who came from nowhere and, as far as I can see, is a genuine Indie.

This is not correct. 3 Borough Independents were re-elected. No Kidsgrove Independents were elected and the Newcastle Independents disappeared from the ballot papers altogether.
