There are 8 by-elections during April 2017:

3 of the contests, including a single member ward, are in District Councils last contested in 2015 3 are in Unitary Authorities with "all out" elections in 2015 although 1 had a by-election in 2016 1 is for a Metropolitan Borough last contested in 2016 and 1 is in a London Borough last contested in 2014
Conservatives are defending 2 seats, 1 following the death of the previous Councillor and 1 a resignation Labour is defending 3 seats, 1 following a death and 2 after resignations Liberal Democrats defend 1 seat after a resignation whilst UKIP defend 2 seats (with 1 sitting as Coastal Independent), 1 following a death and 1 a resignation.
Conservatives are contesting all 8 seats, Labour 7, Liberal Democrats and Greens each 6, UKIP 3 whilst there are 2 Independents - a total of 32 candidates.
Predictions on this thread by 9.00 am on day of the election.
We are having another short break next week returning Friday evening. If one of the DROs could hold the fort please until our return.

Welcome, sirbenjamin. Are you a follower of Arthur? Arthur Figgis? Is that a category, like, say, a friend of Dorothy? Anyway, welcome from me too. New entrants always most gratifying!

I'm not confident of my rough adding given the large number of faults everyone got in Aylesbury, but I think Pete may be first for the week ahead of me.
Then Mark and David close for third/fourth.

I have every reason to be grateful for Sir Benjamin's intervention which saved me from final humiliation having badly miscalculated the scale of the Aylesbury and Tendring swings. Thanks to Pete, too -accurate numbers at speed more to the point than the formatting!
