What is "unsustainable housing"? It falls down? If it was made of straw it might be sustainable but then it might also fall down! That's housing built in the wrong town (by definition, the right towns are all but the one you're living in).

I went slowly through Madeley on the bus between Crewe station and Keele a few years ago. Not the most picturesque of villages, to be frank. It isn't. Even the area around the pool is a bit drab - not helped by the Canada Geese and their faeces. Which - I understand - are a topic of current political debate. I assume you were more

I was a prospective postgrad student at Keele University with only a provisional driving licence and no car travelling from the west, if you must know.

I used to travel by bus through Madeley on the Woore-Newcastle run in the 50s/60s and passed then still open collieries. There were geese and ducks often on the road or crossing the road then near a green with a small pond. Between the wars my Mother's parents lived in the Dower House to Keele Hall which I think was demolished as part of the University construction?
I also used the railway from Pipe Gate south of Woore to Stoke as part of my journey up from Kent. Active creamery then at Pipe Gate generating traffic and some occasional traffic for Woore Races.

For some reason the last three words vanished into cyberspace.

I didn't notice it had happened until we pulled into Crewe. I used to go swimming at Madeley, won a Silver medal for 25m backstroke aged about 11. Was really chuffed until the Radio Stoke reporter pointed out there were only two of us in the race so technically I was last....
