Is this an indication that there is actually going to be an assembly again? Given that both of the MLA's concerned are Sinn Fein? The equal marriage and abortion issues are no more, so the idea that the assembly should not meet simply because of the place of the Irish language seems bizarre. But this is NI.

Would Dodds be the first from DUP to go to the Lords? What have things come to when people forget the late Rev'd and Rt Hon the Lord Bannside?

Doddsy will be able to duet with the Singing Nun (William McCrea) at the next HoL karaoke... He should become Lord Lilliput. There's a street of that name in the constituency, on the site of Swift's old house. Crusaders FC round the corner only narrowly avoided using the name

Solitude is the home of Cliftonville, not an area or fanbase which has any love for Dodds.

Yeah, sorry, got those two mixed up, but they're both in the north of the city, aren't they? How deep is the rivalry between them, is it anything like the bad blood that there is between Linfield and Glentoran?

What on earth is the point of making appointments to an Assembly that hasn't met for years? If they are not going to get it together and function as a legislative body, then better to let it die off by attrition.

I think it is time we revisited how the Northern Ireland Assembly works. I know I've gone on about it before but it isn't real world politics and if it was designed differently it wouldn't have these constant hiatuses.

The methods of blocking legislation are too easy to implement, and need scrapping, but NI will not power share voluntarily, and dominance by one side or the other is not feasible. It's not politics for anywhere other than NI.

I think one of the simplest things that can be changed is instead of requiring the largest parties from each community to do a power sharing deal, allow the two largest parties to do a deal with a smaller party from the other community (ie. SF-UUP or DUP-SDLP) or allow for the smaller parties to do a deal with each other (ie. UUP-SDLP-APNI). Would mean that the government is still 'cross-community', whilst allowing for different government options should the largest parties not be able to reach an agreement.

This is a blatantly obvious reform that would completely remove the roadblock to restarting the assembly.
Though I do have to complain at your use of "i.e." when you clearly meant "e.g.".
