Will be interesting to see if UKIP stand here. Part of the reason they didn't stand in Richmond is due to the costs of campaigning and they now seem to be operating on limited resources. Unliess they have a high profile candidate (the 1 known UKIP figure) they know they won't get close so would just look to be an option and save their deposit. Suzanne Evans seeking UKIP's nomination. Now that is good news. A media savvy rational quality candidate.

Oh for the LibDems to win Richmond Park and UKIP to win Sleaford & North Hykeham. That would really set the cat among the pigeons.

UKIP will do well in this seat, especially considering recent events.

This is comfortable Tory loyalist rural West Lincs rather than Boston so don't oversell UKIP here...

What's the earliest date the by-election could be held? Move the writ on Monday and polling day would be 8 December. But if no-one had any notice there would be a byelection it may be too soon.

Yeah, the non-Tory vote here are either rural non-conformist types, middle class Lincoln overspill suburbanites or (and this is the only area where UKIP might have some traction) Sleaford working class. Otherwise we're talking hyper-traditional middle class and rural Tory voters who aren't badly off who really struggle to even vote independent rather than Tory. West Lincs is somewhat different from East Lincs. It isn't as isolated, has more commuters in it and therefore isn't as inward looking and insular. It's also wealthier.

Oh Christ! Not that loon! As mad as a box of frogs. You could always have the donkey bloke. Or Robin Hunter-Clarke. He's local, some of the time anyway.

It looks like Suzanne Evans has achieved her aim in floating her name i. e. picking yet another fight with the Faragists.

In a by-election with all the media focus a party needs a high profile media-savvy competent candidate because there is more glare and scrutiny. Evans is the obvious choice unless they have a good quality local boy with no damaging baggage.

And ukip need to do what the lib dems did in Witney, select early, choose a good candidate, campaign hard, establish yourselves as the main alternative from an early stage of the campaign.

UKIP's unlikely to win in Sleaford & North Hykeham, but they are probably best placed to capitalise on any public resentment about the calling of this ridiculous by-election.
