The BBC have just confirmed the resignation and have stated that he will stand as an "Independent" anti runway candidate. Does this mean that he has also resigned the Conservative whip?

Ironically it means that Zac Goldsmith will end up taking over a job from Sadiq Khan as he will be appointed Crown Steward and Bailiff of the Chiltern Hundreds putting Sadiq on the dole queue. David Cameron having obviously bagged the Steward of the Manor of Northstead position in the meantime. When was the last time either Steward did any stewarding? |

If he does resign and stand as an Independent this will be the perfect decision for all of us except the tribal Blues. It is the exciting by-election for which we crave. At last the correct decision over Heathrow decades too late. We need a bill on it now pushed through by both the majors stating it is a vital and necessary and overdue item of national strategy and that they will be no discussions, no hearings, no appeals and no delay. This has been kicked about far far too long as it is. I lived in Richmond Park for a while. If Goldsmith stands as an independent, the result will be somewhat unpredictable, though I would expect a Lib Dem gain as the most likely outcome. If he doesn't, I'd lay money on the Lib Dems gaining the seat by a large margin. If Goldsmith stands as an indy, I would bet on him doubling the lib dem vote. I don't know how long since you lived in RP, but its banker central and one of the most right wing seats going. |

Id vote Lib Dem here. This would be with some regret as they are back to a meaningless party of no values and oppose everything. Goldsmith however is a monumental cunt. Maybe ukip if the Lib Dem is a lefty. Maybe even Barnaby for a laugh.

Current reporting is that Zac Goldsmith will stand as an Independent (but no indication of whether it is because he has resigned from the Conservatives or doesn't want the Conservative tag as a candidate) and the Conservatives will not contest
