"It's a Wise Child" from the first season. It's the episode that reveals whether or not Sergeant Major Williams is Gunner Parkin's father. Williams's assumption that he is underpins a lot of the whole series. And it's rounded off very nicely in the final episode where, on returning to the UK, Parkin sees Williams at an uncomfortable loose end after failing to get a demob job for being too old, and invites him home with him, to his mother and implicitly Williams' former lover, allowing the viewers to assume they would become a family together.

Nope. I understand that there is some news footage since then that no longer exists (I'm sure I recall something about there being missing material from as recently as the 9/11 news coverage). Not to mention material that wasn't considered a programme (e.g. the live "broom cupboard" CBBC material between programmes from the 1980s and 1990s). 1978 was approximately when they stopped deliberately junking old recordings, but there are definitely examples of stuff that was never put into the archives dating from well after that point. Junking of comedy and drama shows had stopped by 1978 but programmes such as light entertainment and kid's shows continued to be wiped well after that date. Live shows such as Multi-Coloured Swap Shop were not kept either and what survives from that tends to be domestic recordings. See also Tiswas.

An edition of Question Time from 12th June 1986. This may have been Diane Abbott's first appearance on the show:

Does anyone know when the 1983 election will be repeated?

I'm guessing this is mostly a money-saving decision. A shame since showing election replays probably doesn't cost anything.

Joking aside, this is unbelievable. It's literally the only BBC channel I actually watch, apart from the news when something big happens. It must cost almost nothing to run replays of Scottish agriculture questions or whatever. It is also pretty much the only way to mock the quality of debate/quality of MLAs whenever Stormont isn't on one of its self imposed holidays.

I suppose it's probably too late to complain to them.

I suppose it's probably too late to complain to them. It may be too late for them to reverse the decision, but there's no reason you can't complain about the decision.

"A new daily political programme - Politics Live - which will replace Daily Politics from Monday to Friday." - yeah now just 45 mins a day.
When they say 'bespoke' programmes do they mean "Monday in parliament, "week in parliament", etc.
I heard the annual budget for BBC Parliament was only about £1 million a year anyway - not much scope for savings there.
I had also enjoyed the lecture series they ran "Turning Points"

So what are we getting during the recess? I think this applies when *all* the parliaments/assemblies are in recess, not just Westminster?? Still extremely poor stuff, though.

I have just checked the BBC Parliament schedule page and there is no archive General Election being broadcast on Bank Holiday Monday. This means that, especially in the light of what has been announced since, the 1997 general election (shown on September 4th last year) was the last ever archive general election broadcast on the channel. However, this means that anyone placing them on YouTube now has the absolute right to state "This has been uploaded for education and research into past UK General Elections following the BBC's decision not to show them on the BBC Parliament Channel"

If this is true and it is intended that we will never see GE replays on the BBC again, that must be worth a complaint to them?

If this is true and it is intended that we will never see GE replays on the BBC again, that must be worth a complaint to them? The way the statement was worded when they announced it, it suggested that when Parliament, the Senedd, Holyrood or the European Parliament was not in session the channel would shut down and nothing would be broadcast on it. That's an even bigger shame than not being to see archive elections as it means no "Election Campaign : RAW" with live campaign events as they happen with all the potential hiccups that could come from them.

The first one (replay that is) I saw was 1964, which must have been for the fortieth anniversary in 2004.
As I think others have said, it would be nice to see more ITV election nights, particularly 1966 (?) when Harold Wilson snubbed the BBC by instead giving an interview to ITN.
Sky's 1992 coverage would be interesting too, as their exit poll actually had us ahead in both seats and votes.
