Labour candidate is, as expected, Duncan Enright. Never met him, though I knew his late father, David. He was MEP for Leeds, but got deselected by Michael McGowan. Didn't realise they were related. I met David Enright during his brief period as Labour MP for Hemsworth. Fine chap.

There is some fuss locally: association chairman David Macfarlane has had a letter sent out by Lord de Mauley promoting his candidacy. De Mauley is friends with Cameron which muddies the waters around the story the Cameron is pushing for Natasha Whitmill. Also it seems that CCHQ is specifically promoting only local candidates so no room for the likes of McVey and Hannon.

The late Derek Enright, btw As an MP he is maybe best remembered for singing in Latin, something the Speaker ruled out of order.

Ok, who predicted a Green gain? Not me guv, I've predicted a Conservative hold, and would be surprised if we came above 5th, though West Oxfordshire is not too bad an area for us. But to answer your question, I suspect it is someone like Armchair getting too excitable.

Yeah I expect the LibDems in particular already have their campaign literature ready with regard to that. I wonder though if they might do the opposite - present themselves as moderate liberal conservatives in the Cameron mould, and play on the bad feeling of voters that their local MP PM was dispatched early, effectively by his own side. It helps in this respect that the seat voted remain (albeit narrowly). The trick, and it's not an easy one to pull off, is to do both at the same time with a straight face.

A good choice in the circumstances, especially with all the talk of the Lib Dems using the "not local" thing. But I hope Esther McVey's time will come again.

I hadn't realised that so many people there were on the candidates list. That said, I guess it's an area of affluence and the list tends to attract wealthier people. Just seems odd that so many are on the list.

Meanwhile, the Greens have selected Larry Sanders, the 2015 Oxford West candidate and brother of Bernie.

Is Gareth Fox under pressure from Theresa May?

Robert Courts' electoral experience seems to amount to two local election contests. He was defeated in St Paul ward, Winchester city council in 2007, and then won The Bartons ward, West Oxfordshire district council in 2014.
