The Lochs – Fife – Willie Clark (“Independent”) resigned for health reasons. A communist (was styled Communist on ballot until party registration, Independent (and pro- Last election for that ward, Fife loses 3 councillors and this is the ward which lost out. Bowershall is going into West Fife & Coastal Villages, Kingseat into Dunfermline North, Kelty into Cowdenbeath, Ballingry and Lochore into Lochgelly & Cardenden (which will become Lochgelly, Cardenden and Benarty).
Shame from a Lab point of view as under STV they could have taken 2 of the three seats on the by election result.

The SNP would surely have been a more appropriate replacement for a man representing a movement based on heavy centralisation, appeals against the bourgeois enemy without and exaggerated claims of fiscal credibility.

But there was always something vaguely amusing about living under a minority Labour administration supported by the Conservatives and the Communists.

Hailsham is one of those places that surprises the uninitiated visitor (partly because it's in one of the safest Tory seats in the country, partly because it is just a posh sounding name) by being a bit of a shit hole
