It is Colne town council. There's a nice symmetry to those two results

Gravesham East Cons 1758 Lab 1538 UKIP 1272 Green 209 LDim 110 paper was a bit blurred but I think this is right Maybe the great wave of Corbynistas are holding their fire until they see whether the great man is re-elected? Either that, or they're all spaced out lying on a beach in Ibiza?

Well, the turnout *was* notably low Interesting contrast between this and the DC result too.

Well, the turnout *was* notably low Interesting contrast between this and the DC result too. Pelham is quite heavily Asian (mostly Sikh) - the Eastern part of Gravesend much less so

That is a truly horrendous result for Labour in Gravesham East. And rather disappointing for us too. "Truly horrendous" possibly overstates things a little. This, for Labour, has always been the more marginal of the two Gravesend divisions and both seats were lost in 2009. Even so, it is scarcely any thing other than very disappointing. It is not just a reflection on Labour's current self destructive tendency but underlines a problem for Labour in Kent, that has been transparent since 2010.

That's why we don't have major elections in August, or during the Olympics ... and why Labour like to call byelections during that same period! Pretty sure we didn't call it.

There has been a long term move away from Labour in Kent since the 50s when Dover, Faversham, Rochester & Chatham. Gravesend and Dartford were all usually Labour and Gillingham and Thanet could come under pressure. In 2015 Gravesend and Canterbury bucked the trend and last night must be a bit of a warning as it suggests Conservative recovery there.

Actually, Dover voted in a Tory MP from 1950-64 - which may surprise some based on more recent trends.
Whereas both Faversham and Dartford were Labour throughout that period.

Well the main reason for the difference between Dover and elsewhere is that it's been less affected by the expansion of the London metropolitan region.

That's why we don't have major elections in August, or during the Olympics ... and why Labour like to call byelections during that same period! It's hardly going to benefit us so I don't think so.
