Here's a theoretical question that occurred to me when I was handing in my nomination forms this morning. What's the legal position if an election agent dies between close of nominations and election day and is, therefore, unable to submit the election expenses? I'm fairly certain the candidate becomes the agent. The candidate delegates responsiblity to the agent, if the agent ceases to be, the delegation ceases to be.
Now, shall I expand on Electoral Commission Guidance para 2.30 which I now know inside and out.

Yes, as abovementioned: it is possible to appoint a new agent, but otherwise it defaults to the candidate becoming the agent. In Croydon in 2000, for the New Addington by-election, the Lib Dem agent dropped dead from a heart attack in the Returning Officer’s office a few minutes after handing in his candidate’s nomination papers.

The following seems a bit weird. Is it legal to give details of current councillors alongside statutory notices?

Why was turnout in 2015 still 10% below 1992 despite both elections being equally close based on polling? 1992 had a higher turnout as it was post Poll Tax and there was seen as more being at stake at the election. 2015 The parties were more seen to be all the same, little worthwhile difference. Though the turnout was, then, the highest since 1997. Low turnouts in 2001 and 2005, as the result was seen as a forgone conclusion. Voter engagement by politicians had dropped this Century. They're all the same, don't listen thought has had its impact on turnout. It's not surprise that 2017 with Corbyn leading Labour has the highest general election turnout since 1997, as he made people vote through attraction and repulsion. People voted in the EU referendum in big numbers because they had a direct say on something they cared about,it engaged those who thought their vote and opinion is generally ignored once the election was over, so voting is pointless. Also politicians have yet to fully engage some of our growing ethnic minority into average voting turnouts. No simple answers and to say civic duty of voting has dropped is to me a bit simplistic. 30 years today since that headline

Chatting to a Green buddy at the PECO awards light night he mentioned that they had ony found a candidate and submitted a nomination in City ward CBMDC one and a half hours before they closed (readers of my Bradford notes will recall that we did not have a candidate there and that the Tories cocked up their nomination. had they used that candidate elswhere (as was I belive originally the plan) or there had been an error on their papers then the ward would have been uncontested. Has that ever happened before on a Met Council, and if not have there been any closer shaves?

Has that ever happened before on a Met Council, and if not have there been any closer shaves? There have been several uncontested elections in Knowsley, usually involving Labour being unopposed but on one famous occasion where they messed up their nomination enabling a Conservative to be elected unopposed in a safe Labour ward. Edit: to be prescise it was Whiston South in 1990 (which at the previous and subsequent elections voted Labour over Conservative by around 4 to 1

Are there any rules about MPs using Parliamentary resources to send out a survey about specific local issues (such as building on the greenbelt) during a local election campaign?
