It appears that Lee Chapman (Conservative) has won Church Stretton and Craven Arms. It true it wouldn't be a great shock, given the LibDem candidate...

Actual results (as opposed to just winners) rather slow in coming through tonight, aren't they? Just how hard is it, FFS??

It does reinforce unfortunate stereotypes about Shropshire, alas.

No-one saw that one coming. I had my suspicions, but wasn't brave enough to run with them. Neighbourhood statistics shows it as a fairly middle-class ward. Absent the students, who I presume are even less likely to turn out for a by-election than a standard election, it doesn't show obvious signs of being a Labour fortress. The LD score in Thetford is surprisingly low given that their candidate is the incumbent county councillor. Presumably they've just given up there.

Ah right, a lot of students wouldn't be there at the moment anyway - makes sense. I wonder what the turnout was??
