Evesham is on the same latitude as Milton Keynes and Ipswich, so pretty southern really To clarify: EAST MIDLANDS: Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire WEST MIDLANDS: Herefordshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands (county), Worcestershire. Milton Keynes (the borough) is in north Bucks and so is in the SOUTH EAST.

I had never heard of these regions called the East and West Midlands before so I'm very lucky that you've turned up here to educate me. Can you educate me further about the profound cultural differences that you encounter when you cross from Evesham (in the West Midlands) to Gloucestershire (in the South West) or indeed from Stony Stratford in the SOUTH EAST to Old Stratford, Northants

Indeed. The Midlands is the North. LOL! It is not the South, it is the deep, deep South. Yorkshire is the South. Glasgow and Newcastle are the Midlands. The Picts would certainly have thought so....

The difficulty for Labour is that MM has a point as well - if anything is worse than Corbynism, its the "we have to mindlessly parrot whatever focus groups say even if we don't actually believe it" brigade. Not only can Labour not win that way, if they somehow did the result would be such a disaster it *might* finish the party off for good. This reminds me of an event where a Labour MP justified cutting disability benefits, not because the beliefs people held about them were true - he admitted they weren't - but because 'that's what people think'. I just don't accept that way of thinking - it does beg the question of what is the point in existing at all

Its just such a lazy AND cowardly approach, which - as is pretty evident wherever you look - hasn't done the liberal-left (here or elsewhere) any electoral favours either.
Not endorsing "no compromise with the electorate" is one thing, never even attempting to entice them in a better direction quite another.

You're an Olney resident, aren't you? I'm surprised you consider yourself to live in Milton Keynes.

Yorkshire is the South. Glasgow and Newcastle are the Midlands. No, Glasgow is in Scotland. Yorkshire and Newcastle are in in the North (of England). None of these places are in the Midlands, which is a distinct part of England (even if there is some debate about where the Midlands proper ends and the North/South begin).

What is the 'point' of it all? There is no point Mike. All is either chance or a form of chaotic determinism within misunderstood but firmly balanced physical rules? Take your choice. Your decision doesn't matter. None of us matter. We are here because we are here because we are here. The troops were right. But their chance and chaos was much worse than ours! We are so very lucky Mike. Take a broader vision and worry less.

You forgot Shropshire. And Rutland. And Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Oxfordshire. And Banbury is officially in the south-east region despite having more in common with the (West) Midlands.

Banbury is in South East England then the question was a bloody silly one. These are pointless descriptions.

Peterborough is the difficult one for South / Midlands. Buxton for North / Midlands

Not endorsing "no compromise with the electorate" is one thing, never even attempting to entice them in a better direction quite another. We live in a world where the public say they want more ideological politicians and then scream when one gets into power. That goes for Left and Right alike.
