Early elections haven't been formally called yet, but are backed by a majority in parliament (82 of 151) and the approved by the President, so de facto a done deal. Will take place on the 11th of September.

"MPs on Monday voted to dissolve parliament, days after Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković lost a no-confidence vote." (...) "Parliament will be officially dissolved on July 15, parliamentary speaker Željko Reiner said. Elections must be held no earlier than 30 days and no later than 60 days after July 15 — that’s August 14 at the earliest and September 13 at the latest."

Former president (2000-10) Stjepan "Stipe" Mesic (81) will join the centre-left People’s Coalition in the upcoming elections.
“My candidacy was proposed to me and I have agreed under certain conditions, regarding a consensus of parties in the Coalition. In case of a consensus, I can run as a sort of support.”
Mesic main motive is stopping the historical revisionism and downplaying of the crimes of the wartime fascist Independent State of Croatia (NDH) which Culture Minister Zlatko Hasanbegovic (a historian, who is something as weird as a Muslim Croatian ultranationalist) has been playing the key role in.
SDP has already included the centre-right Croatian Peasants Party, HSS in its coalition last week, but Mesic may be a bit controversial. Croatian observers say SDP is taking a risk by including him.

The Croatian parliament was formally dissolved today. The enactment of this decision means that constitutional deadlines for a snap election start running. An early parliamentary vote must be held between 30 and 60 days after the dissolution of the existing parliament.

46-year-old former diploma Andrej Plenkovic was formally elected HDZ chairman Sunday and promised to focus more on the economy and to move HDZ to the centre.
- “The solution can’t be a policy that separates, which is based on ideological differences. Croatia needs a modern political platform. I will insist that the HDZ strengthen the independence of all political institutions.”
- “I want the HDZ to generate political stability, legal security, economic growth, social solidarity, justice and social inclusion.”
SDP have countered by including the centre-right Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) in their People's Coalition and unlike the election last year both blocks will try to win over centrist voters. The HDZ leadership plan to purge some of the far right elements from their Patriotic Coalition and sideline their own right wing.

*Cue research of random Croatian political parties*

I am currently in Split, where there is zero sign of an election. I haven't seen a sign the whole time I've been here, and didn't see any sort of polling station today.

Compared to last time where the Patriotic Coalition (HDZ et al) won 59 and Croatia is Growing (SDP et al) won 56 this is basically a tie. Most is down from 19, but that is after several defections.
People's Coalition + IDS is 58. HDZ + General Glasnovic is 62.
Human Blockade's 8 seats are useless as is the one to HDSSB (hates HDZ). That is 9 useless seats + 2 to the Bandit (I think HDZ is more likely to use him). Both sides need Most and some of the ethnics (SDP has the edge among them, for obvious reasons).

Starting to get a Spain feeling from the. You hold a new election which sort absolutely none of the problems the previous one caused.

With 3/4 counted it is clear, that HDZ gained most, where MOST lost most: In I. (+6:-8), VII. (+4:-7), lesser II. (+1.5:-5) and VI. (+3:-5) - that's ZagrebCity! Not surprising, of course. SDP gained only (North)East in/of Zagreb (II.) and in their stronghold North III. (both +4); they lost 3% in VIII. (to IDS/...[+5.5]) and IX. (to ORaH/...[+3]). ZZ gains are quite evenly distributed (+1 in Dalmatia, +2 in the rest). Bandic/... gained 3% in III. and 2% in II.. HDSSB lost 2% in IV., but gained slightly in V.; their time seems to be over, even in Osijek.
