Should be an easy Lib Dem gain. Pre 2010 Burgess Hill was a Lib Dem fiefdom. Not quite true , 2003 and 2007 Franklands ward was split 1 Con and 1 Lib Dem councillor . Dunstall ward has always been Conservative . OK. If Mid Sussex remains a safe Tory seat there has to be some support in Burgess Hill. But there is a Lib Dem machine of long standing there, and they are quite good at targeting both protest votes and Labour tactical voters. So I still thing a Lib Dem gain without too much of a sweat. |

There are 7 by-elections during the second half of March and 7 already in April with at least one more expected. There are a further 31 identified vacancies in England where there is as yet no date for the by-election although most, but not all, will be held on 4 May. These are now listed on the 4 May thread but will be transferred back here if held before.

Ray Hassall, Liberal Democrat councillor for Perry Barr ward on Birmingham City Council has sadly passed away. I served with Ray for 8 years and he was hard worker and a great character, his proudest moment was when he was Lord Mayor.
