I am imagining a scenario in which those boundaries are accepted, but there is fierce argument about the names. Each one could be named "This & That" where "This" is the name of a small obscure village at the far north end of the constituency, and "That" is a village at the far south end.

On a bit of a tangent, I just made a legal constituency that goes through eighteen local authorities to spite the BC (every Welsh LA except Anglesey, Pembs, Cardiff and Glamorgan). I can't immediately think of a more fertile hunting ground, since most English authorities are a fair bit more dispersed...

Clearly 'Gainsborough and Stamford' should be called 'Brant Broughton' after the most significant settlement in the seat. And it's nice and central, what's not to like!

In a similar vein, I created a contiguous constituency all in one region stretching from the Scottish border to Manchester (Littleborough). Presumably named 'Backbone of England' or similar...

Looks like you have enough room to add Downlands and Forest from New Forest district for 19!

I thought it might be entertaining to have a thread for really bad constituencies that would be likely to cause outrage amongst those afflicted by it. Submissions for deliberately terrible creations, or serious attempts that happened to go badly wrong somewhere, should be posted here. To start the ball rolling, here's my attempt to quadrisect Sutton Coldfield and to place each portion in a Labour constituency. In practice, I'm not sure it'd work that way - the Nuneaton seat in particular looks like a pretty good bet for the Conservatives and I think Streetly and Four Oaks might be able to outvote West Bromwich, but it'd still cause plenty of coronaries as it is. Ha. I hadn't seen this thread. I did my own Sutton gerrymander a few days ago: though it was more for annoyance' sake than to get the Suttonites into Labour seats. Of course these seats (Lefty's and mine) aren't that far-fetched when you think back to the Commission's initial proposals five years ago.

I present St Mary's and Fratton... I refuse to list the skates' stadium first You haven't named either stadium... Seeing as Fratton isn't in your seat at all (wrong side of the railway line) you need to be specific and name it Fratton Park & The Friends Provident St Mary's Stadium. Or Milton and Solent North...

I was going for a slight abbreviation of the two stadium names - it's not my fault that Fratton Park is in Milton! BTW The Saints have played at a pure St Mary's since 2006, when the Friends Provident line was dropped due to sponsor changes. I suppose if we were to adopt swix 's idea of using Australian naming conventions we could call it Redknapp to further encourage the internal tensions.

I know, it causes great confusion (not only the fact that Fratton Park is in Milton ward but the fact that the area around Fratton Park itself is regarded as part of Southsea!). My mistake, I took the old name as the current name. Should know better, have gone part it enough in the train... That name would be, erm, inflammatory for all involved (though even more so if it included my ward in there for non-football related reasons).

I'd actually be happy with that - I'm quite friendly with the Davyhulme Councillors West or East? I know Mike and Linda in East well.

I'm currently trying to make sensible constituencies out of Northants/Leics/Notts, and it occurs to me that Corby & Rutland might solve a number of problems......

I was trying to do something with Daventry and Harborough, but it didn't really go very far.
