There are now 79 known council vacancies where the by-election is being held on 5th May. There are 235 candidates contesting the 53 by-election seats, with a Conservative being returned unopposed in one of these, whilst there are 186 candidates contesting the 26 "double" elections where the casual vacancy is being filled in the same contest as the annual elections.
