I do think that a seat made up of Wilmslow, Bramhall and Hazel Grove is rather curious, but could be worse.

I do think that a seat made up of Wilmslow, Bramhall and Hazel Grove is rather curious, but could be worse. Yes, it does seem rather odd. I was quite surprised at the objections to the Bramhall and Poynton idea, although having spent my early years living in Woodford which is sandwiched between the two (and Wilmslow), the official Cheshire/Greater Manchester line is definitely felt, despite most people in all these areas within Stockport referring to Cheshire. This new crossing of the Cheshire/Greater Manchester line seems even more odd though and it's created a bit of a rag-bag of a seat.

I'll say this about Pendle and Ribble Valley, the A59 is a clear road connection along the entire seat. Perhaps far better internal transport links than either of the predecessor seats!

I get the feeling the A59 is a sort of excuse for the constituency.

The people of Thornton-Cleveleys will be appalled when they find out. There's worse things then finding out you live in Blackpool. I assume.

Oddly, the BCE has recreated an old constituency but reversed its name - Middleton and Prestwich (fl. 1918-83) has become Prestwich and Middleton. It was actually a very interesting seat during its previous existence.

That was back when Prestwich was quite reliably Conservative. Times have changed a lot since then. The new Prestwich & Middleton seat will be very safe for Labour. While I'd expect Sedgley to vote Tory at the next general election, the other two Prestwich wards are very Labour in a general election. Radcliffe and Unsworth are significantly better for the Tories than Middleton.
The seat as drawn isn't great and I think it would have made a lot more sense to pair Prestwich with Broughton and Crumpsall but the knock on effect of such a seat causes so much disruption elsewhere.
Not that any of this matters as the boundary changes are dead.

Why was Gedling borough (for which the constituency was in turn named) named for that small place anyways? Of course Carlton disappeared as a constituency name in favor of Gedling, and now Gedling (sort of) disappears in favor of Carlton.
