Three more uncontested elections on 29 September East Hampshire, Farringdon. No Description Cannock Chase, Hednesford (Anglesey). Unaffiliated. True Independent for Hednesford Residents Cannock Chase, Rugeley (Etchinghill). Resident of Etching Hill This caught my eye because there is also an Anglesey ward in Burton and I wondered what the connection might be. This would be the answer en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marquess_of_AngleseyThere also used to be an Uxbridge ward in Burton In 1826 the Marquess of Anglesey established a small community in (then) rural Hampshire, hence the Anglesey Ward we see in Gosport Borough Council.

British Democrat - new far-right party or just a description? New party, coming from the now defunct For Britain. They have at least 1 councillor (in Epping Forest, elected as For Britain).

Has anywhere had as many as Carterton’s 5 by-elections in a recent cycle? At a guess, Morecambe may have had more (but is a bigger council), and We've seen quite a few in Ely recently. Haven't counted for either of them, though. There are some "technical" ones that probably don't count for your purposes - e.g. to try and fill entire councils after a lack od nominations, or where the same vacancy has been called over and over. 9bviously on a district level there are plenty - lancaster's on 11 I make it 5 (out of 15) of Ely's councillors who weren't elected in 2019. I think there were by-elections in each case.

How in practical terms could UKIP's ban on admitting former members of the BNP be extended to a ban on former members of UKIP joining another party which also happens to have some former members of the BNP in it?

I am fairly sure looking at the membership of that party that they were members of assorted racist parties before joining UKIP and then joining a new racist party after.... I know many UKIP members were as anti racist as the rest of us but it does seem to have had several with dubious pasts. I would agree that its impossible to track all the parties that all members had been part of in their time... some do seem to be serial party hoppers.

ALDC are trumpeting an LD gain in South ward, Newport town council, but not saying which Newport it is (Shropshire, IoW, somewhere else?). Anyone know?

Telford & Wrekin, Newport, South. LD 235, Con 192, Ind 115, 3, Lab 83, [] 14 That's the one, but I was wrong, it's a hold rather than a gain.
